Found this little bugger in my front yard. I'm located in northern Texas. Any ideas?
Really docile and friendly.

STC, Thank you for asking. :) No I didn't see what kind it was, but more than like it was a copperhead since copperheads are the snakes we see/kill in the yard. Our house is a fairly new construction that was built on a wooded lot that had to be cleared, so our lot could have been the woodsie 'copperhead hang-out.'

:)

Sign me up for the pro snake crowd - Never could quite wrap my head around folks that build a house on a cliff and are shocked when it slides off, or people that move into snake habitat and express their disgust for the devilish invaders.
As for biblical arguments, probably could make arguments either way - But if we were still living life literally from the bible, we'd be out stoning gays and adulteresses about now. Snakes are incredible creatures perfectly adapted to their environment [until someone thrown down a concrete slab and builds a house], their goals in life are much the same as me and you - Live, eat, sleep, mate and be left to carry out their lives without interference.
A snake will stand its ground, they don't have a choice when confronted with a potential mortal enemy [like a cat], since they are not gifted with flight or speed to avoid conflict.

I agree with Digs68. May be a Prairie Ringer. Lovely little snake that lightly wraps around your fingers.

We have 3 types of poisonous snakes in Northern, NY which are protected and it is illegal to harm or kill one. Guess what ? I pay high taxes in the State of NY and the protected snakes don't. As far as I'm concerned Timber Rattlers and Copperheads have thousands of acres of State owned woods and natural habitat to live in. Snakes in this area establish dens so when you find one there maybe many more or a female may establish a den on your property. Any poisonous snake seen on my property will be shot as I have a fundamental right to protect the members of my household including my dog who is a member of my household on my property. Any poisonous snake on my property is unprotected and I don't care what the law and the snakes attorney says because they are both just a couple of snakes. Non poisonous snakes on my property are fine and never harmed. An 8 year old girl was killed by a Timber Rattler while playing in her own yard here back about 30 years ago. There is not going to be any snake bites on my property and when I see one, they are truly an endangered species on my property.

For sure a cat is an enemy of a snake, I would think a 7 year old would figure that out - And if you want to get into politics, mr rustyscrews, there is a section for that and its NOT HERE
