Found this little bugger in my front yard. I'm located in northern Texas. Any ideas?
Really docile and friendly.

Hi; You DON"T want to get me started on SNAKES again. To me they are PURE EVIL, PERIOD. I'd state the Biblical reasons I say this but they are the ONLY creature directly Cursed by God on earth. I'll either kill any of them or run like hell. They "will Not" survive near me period. I'm with Breezie on this one.
If you farmer types can find a use for them then I pray they serve you in complete, UTTER Servitude. They come on my Property I "WILL" have a Priest here in .2ms flat to reconsecrate my house and ALL in it. This is no kidding. Please don't ask me for any details on why ok. Thanks. Breezie, the race is on for top snake hater ok ?? PEACE:RONB :leprechaun-hat:

I have a king snake that lives around my house. Then there is a seven footer at my shop. The big one is a grey rat snake. He like to hang out around my tractor. The tractor has a inclosed cab. One morning I got in an started it up. On the right side where the breaks are he was laying in the floor. He had to get by me to get out. I reached down and grabbed his tail and litely put him out. He doesn't get in there anymore. Snakes feed on the rats so I don't mind them unless they're the deadly ones. Out away from my house I leave them alone.

There is no such thing as a poisonous snake. Only venomous ones.

Oh, pleeeeeeease. . . .we all know VENOMOUS means you are INJECTED/BITTEN and then harmed and POISONOUS means INGESTED/EATEN and then harmed. Most people use the term 'poisonous snake' and are not so picky about the meaning.

BUT if you eat a venomous snake it becomes a poisonous snake so there is a such thing as a poisonous snake! If my dog eats a copperhead, the venom makes the dog sick, thus it is poisonous. Am I splitting hairs? Yes, but so were you! :)

It's blatantly obvious that you don't know squat about snakes of any kind... I have eaten rattlers many times and lived to tell the tale. "oooooOOOOOoooo! The scary slithering thing that may bite me if I step directly on it while bumbling around like Helen Keller!"

Snakes gotta eat, sleep, live and mate same as anyone here or their dogs - Cut them some slack.

Makes me cringe to hear people talking about killing them like swatting a fly or something, they are some amazing creatures and would much rather slither away than get into fight unless they feel they have no other option.

According to Webster, venom is a type of poison produced by animals such as snakes in order to disable or kill. Venom is a type of poison. Not all poison is venom, but all venom is poison. If a snake is venomous it is, by definition, poisonous. Saying that snakes are venomous rather than poisonous is like saying that a cottonmouth is not a snake, but rather a water moccasin. And when venomous snakes come in to my yard, they will be executed. Sorry, but I like dogs better than snakes.

Always nice to see folks pulling out their trusty dictionaries again. ...I gotta admit, I do get lazy in my growing age. Well said, Spats.

Hi Folks; Breezy, I like your tact. Me, Not so much. I see a snake I go from Calm, Cool, Collected to absolute BEZERK in .2ms. I stated my reasons before in an earlier Thread months ago. It is my Faith. It is thus my Belief that what the Bible says about snakes is true. That according to the Bible they are the ONLY creature on Earth that has EVER been DIRECTLY cursed by God and were thus BANNED from ever entering Heaven. God also placed a wall of Enmity between snakes & Man. Read Genesis. This is my Faith to which I am Entitled just as much as any Man and I stand by it. I give to God what is God's & I give to Man what is Man's. I "REALLY" don't want to get started on it for I don't want to blast or offend anyone else who thinks differently than myself and many others here regarding snakes. If you notice I even refuse to use a Capitol letter in the name snake. Only God & Man are given that Honor. A Capitol letter is used when in the process of Description of People, Places, Dates, etc. I refuse to give snakes even that honor. Are you getting my drift ??
NOW: If anyone has a use for them then I pray that they serve you in UTTER Servitude. To me that is all they are good for and I seriously question that. Bottom line for me is that if a snake comes near me or mine it will die and I will have a Priest here in .3ms to ReConsecrate my house and "ALL" that is in it to cleanse it from the Evil they possess. I kid you not. To me they are the DIRECT reincarnation of Satan himself hence they deserve my Curse of them before my God. It is with this said that I wish you all well and I will bid my exit. PEACE:RONB :leprechaun-hat:

Well Ron, you surely are welcome to your beliefs!! Personally, I can't accept that, but then that's just me. I see snakes as another of God's creatures. Was born and raised in a very conservative church environment and have never felt that way. ...On the other hand, snakes are nothing to be worshiped, either!! But I can think of much meaner, more nasty beasts than snakes - like, say, the Wolverine. Small, ferocious, and will often tackle a bear, and still come out the victor! But snakes "do" have purpose. ...Is the common garter snake bad? What about rat snakes? They're both quite beneficial, as are the others.

Don't get me wrong - I ain't about to go trying to cuddle these things at all!! But honestly, IMO, your views are somewhat akin to the views that the Puritans had on witches; ie., a normal person who happened to have a dream they couldn't understand, or a dream about something that just happened to come true. Maybe there were a few witches, maybe not. I don't know. All I know is that in my understanding of the Bible, there was only "1" serpent that was evil, as it was Satan - who took the form of a serpent. Didn't mean he was one. But again, that's just my understanding of things. The world NEEDS varying viewpoints and ways of thinking. Without that, we'd simply be robots, and that would be no fun. :tongue3:

Well said kcm and your "understanding of things" is pretty much spot on.

Looks similar to what we have up here called a "Ringneck Prairie Snake". They are very small, docile, & usually have an orange-ish ring around their neck. They also usually have an orange belly too. Not much bigger than a good-sized night crawler usually.
