I found this yesterday at a old park.
Looks like a small wrench, anyone know what it was used for?

It is about 2 1/2 inches long, has 2 6 sided holes one is the same as a 1/2 inch wrench, I think the other is 3/8, it is L shaped and has a square hole in the short side of the L, the square hole is around 1/8 inch.

I think it is a "skate key" for the old fashioned roller skates that clamped on your shoes. The key turned a shaft that moved the clamp in and out.

Many old wrenches were originally used to tighten and loosen bolts. :laughing9:

I am old enough to have used those skate keys, and only one option of size was necessary. I suspect bike wrench. Those two sizes may be enought to get 90% of the on-the-road repairs done. Besides, that wouldn't have fit too well under the shoe platform to close the clamps. And they never stayed clamped on, anyway.

I too, am old enough to remember the old steel wheeled roller skates and when I first viewed the key tool...roller skate key came to mind.

The wrench portion was used to shorten or lengthen the toe and heal paarts...the key was used to adjust the toe clamp...

And I agree, they were basically useless, especially if all you had were the old high topped tennies...might as well clamped them to your bare feet...

Stefen: Maybe on the size adjustment, but your huge collection offers nothing even close to the subject. I don't remember much about the size adjustment, perhaps it used the same skate key. I had longfellers, I was wearing my dad's shoes when I was in the 3rd grade, so I grew out of skates pretty young. But mojjax seems to have hit it pretty well dead on.

Monty: That's what got my attention also, at first. Beautiful buxom wrenches with huge tankards of ale. What a dream.

Can I borrow a six pence?
