Small Medallion ?

Anyone seen anything like this. Found at a late 1800's site only used from then early/mid 1900's. Farm field from then on.

Neat find. It looks like it is supposed to portray one of the early explorers (Maybe Ponce De Leon??, De Soto??,) or one of the others who wore helmets. Is there anything on the back? Maybe it was an turn of the century watch fob? Cool to find in the middle of a field whatever it is.

There is nothing on the back, no inscriptions or makers mark and the details were stamped or rolled on to the metal. Looking at the back it is the exact opposite or re-leaf of the front. This in itself may mean it not that old. The coin in the pic is a wheat for reference. Pretty sure it was a pendant/charm on a chain. Too small for a watch fob plus there are a couple links still attached. Guessing the metal is copper as it was covered with a green patina like the wheat but it came off too easy with a light water wash so it could be something else.
