Small Cache Found In Abandond House

A month ago I was exploring a large abandond house near where I live in PA. I started my exploration in the basement and worked my way up. All the furnature was still in the house. It looked like the house was probually abandond around 1960. On the 2nd floor I went into a small bedroom. I search everywhere but didn't find anything. Then I went up to the third floor and into another bedroom. The room was empty so I went over to check out the closet. On the top shelf in the closet, way in the back, I saw a small purse. I opened the purse and saw silver. Inside the small purse was: 16 franklin halfs, 27 silver roosevelt dimes, 8 silver washinton quarters, and a mans gold ring with 5 small dimonds in it! I was so exited to show my friend and check out the dates that in my haste I cut my elbow on the glass as i was exiting the house. It started bleeding real bad. As soon as I buy my camera I will post pics of the cache along with pics of the house. Questions or comments welcomed.

WTG! Just shows that keeping your eyes open really pays off. By the way that shows that a hunting buddy can be handy, if you had cut an artery you might not be posting right now. HH

Hopefully you'll have a scar from that cut. That's the kind of scar you can brag about! Good job!

Nice Im sure you have or plan to detect around the house. Be sure to checkout Beekrocks thread for alot of useful info when searching a house. Keep us posted. Congrats

It might not be the only cache there. Some people had several caches in different locations. That way if anyone stole a cache they didn't get it all. If its a really old house then there maybe a few generations of caches. Go back and look out the bedroom windows for flower beds, bent limbs on trees, big trees and rocks, anything that sticks out and is easily seen from the windows. Oh yeah and next time don't stare so much at your finds and maybe you won't get cut. You might want to consider a first aid kit on future excursions. Jason

beleive it when i see it :-\

Hello again. For georgyb, I live in Pittsburgh, PA. And for dekalb33, the pics will be up in no longer than a week. :)

mattjd, If that house had the doors locked and you went through a window as it sounds, you could be in for some real trouble if you get cought inside, and halled off to jail! Best you go to court house and see who the owner of the house is. and if there's someone still paying taxes on the place. If you find the person that lived there last has died, then check to see if they left a will. Remember someone likely owns that property, and you dont want to be inside a jail looking out! If the doors were standing wide open on the house? But that isn't what it sounds like you found. TAKE CARE! Monk

Monk, thank you for your concern. However, I checked out my county's website before I went in and found that the taxes were not paid for the last four years. I don't know about before that because the website only lists if the taxes were paid the most resent four years. Also, there aren't any No-Tresppassing signs anywhere so it's probually government owned. All the doors of the house were busted open and the windows are all broken. The place should be torn down. It looks like a lot of people used the house as a "party house" because of all the modern trash and beer bottles in the house. Enough legal mumbo jumbo, I get enough of that from my dad (I'm only 15) - LOL. I plan on detecting the yard whenever the snow melts. I've detected it once last summer and found 2 wheats then my batteries went dead. I use a garrett GTI 1500. I will keep you all posted on any finds I make from detecting the yard as soon as the snow melts which will be pretty soon, :D COME BACK IN A FEW DAYS TO CHECK OUT MY PICS!!!

Hey Everybody! I bought my camera today so the pics will be up sometime tommorow. :D

Great Matt, we look forward to seeing them :)

I'm having trouble posting the pics. Once I choose the picture and then click Post, a screen comes up saying that my file is to big and that the maximum attachment allowed is 128 KB.
Can someone help me on how to post the pictures.? THANKS!!!

Take smaller pictures. And just keep loading them up on the same topic. Just like you were going to reply to your own stuff. Divide your stuff up take a pic of like 5 half dollars. Then try to post that. Then bump up the size of the next pick to like 8 halfs. You'll figure it out. If you need any more help just let me know. That was happening to me like crazy. I had to go back retake smaller pics of every thing I had to fit them.

Good Luck Jer

You can also go into Photo Shop & crop The Pic.

COOL FINDS ( & SITE ) Matt, congrats ; jeff

Hey Matt. Cool pics. Didn't you say this was a party house that other kids hung out at? Were the items hidden in the desk or just sitting in a drawer? It seems funny that no one saw these items before unless they were hidden. Unless Tim is a wealthy bum who left his stuff there yesterday ;) Just curious.

Matt, you may also wanna be very carefull, if this place IS being used as a Party House, these items may be stolen, by Kids, while trying to Get money to support their "Party Lifestyle" if you know what I mean. They May not take too Kindly, if they find out where they are going.? THIS is all I'll say, Because I am not in the Habbit of Judging, I just want to be shure your Being Safe ; jeff
