Im no expert on the subject, but a lot of guys here on T-net post pics of bullets like that from the civil war. That would be my guess, or sometime around then. Someone else will chime in eventually and give you some better info, for sure.

It appears to be a three ring minie ball that was fired and hit something after it was "spent" causing minor damage. Could also be a fired blunt designed minie. Can't tell from the one picture. A diameter in inches would be useful to determine caliber and also a photo of the base would be helpful.

maybe .52 Spencer? without knowing the exact diameter it's hard to id, for me at least, I don't know a lot about Civil War era bullets other than the common ones. I'm sure one of the experts will see it and know before too long though

Need measurement of the bullet's diameter, in hundredths-of-an-inch. Please borrow a digital caliper if you don't have one. With that confounded Metric ruler, I can't even estimate the bullet's diameter.

Also need additional well-focused CLOSEUP photos, and in particular, one showing the bullet's base. Is it a flat solid base, or does it have a cavity. If so, what shape is the cavity... a cone, or a bowl, or something else.
