Sleepy's Most Wanted (Roosevelt Dimes)

After having searched through $7,110 worth of dimes, I figured I'd get a Whitman Coin book (1946-1964 Dimes). I'm going to make it my goal to fill it by the end of the year! To the right is my "Most Wanted" List to help keep track of my progress. I want all of my finds to be from CRHing, so I won't be purchasing any of them. Here goes nothing! :headbang: 1)1955

Man, I was SO hoping for a 1955D as that would have completed the 1955 set, but I can't complain too much - it's a beautiful coin and it will definitely be replacing the one I found in December of 2013. My CWRs have been pretty bad lately, so I was a bit surprised with today's haul to say the least. I even found 3 silvers and a Canadian in the same roll! Guess that's the nature of the beast when it comes to CWRs...sometimes it's silver and foreigns, sometimes it's washers and pennies. Today...WE FOUND SILVER!

New dime volume record for this area...It has taken a few weeks to build this thing up, but I think I'm finally ready to let my CRH operation run wide open! I'm gonna attempt to break $5000 searched in dimes this week! (previous area record = $2785)

Yeah, man...At least half a dozen times this evening I've thought to myself, "I can't wait to see what's in those seven boxes" only to realize what's already taken place! :icon_pale: Literally one of the biggest letdowns in my CRHing career.

You never can tell what's on the other side of all those skunks...but something tells me there will be a post in the next 24 hours letting us know! :laughing7:

Yikes. Were you able to learn anything about the box appearance that corresponds to all new dimes? I stopped getting Brinks dime boxes because some of them are all new coins. From what I saw, those boxes were perforated, while mixed dimes came in a solid box. Of course, I can't specify "no perforated boxes", so I just avoid them now. I'd like to try some Loomis dime boxes.

I stopped at 3 banks this afternoon and got $100 in dimes from each, and 8.50 in loose halves. The halves were a bust, but I got one '64 Rosie out of the 60 rolls. My wife found a prettier one Saturday in a coinstar.

Score on the '64! Love when my wife brings home silver...

Yeah, I have been avoiding the type of box that typically yields poor results/all 2019s in my area. The boxes that produced the 2019s today had never done this previously, which makes it all the more disappointing. I'm projecting picking up 5 more boxes on Wednesday, all of the type that produced all 2019s today. Hopefully this doesn't become a trend...if so, might have to push heavy to CWRs for a week or two.

That dime I got in Box 5 ended a brutal ten box skunk streak. It came in the very last roll on the far right, as in it was an ender that I didn't notice off hand. Reading from left to right, you could say it took the 2,500th dime in the box to end the skunk streak. It was sitting there as if to say "I know I'm only a 1964, but next week will be better."

It looks like I broke my all-time dime volume record of $6050 by about three boxes this week. I thought I hit 30 boxes a few times back in 2013, but it looks like my personal record was only about 24 boxes. Well, we certainly didn't break any silver dime records this week...just gotta keep pushing through the skunks. Here's to LESS 2019s next week, and maybe a Most Wanted Find!

Sleepy: I'm reading your wanted list, but I don't know if it's my end, or the system, BUT, your list is like a run on sentence & very difficult to read with all the dates & numbers .
Is there any other way you can present it for a more understandable reading.
It's most likely on my end, using an I-Pad Tablet.

Hmmm...:icon_scratch: I'm not sure how to fix that on an Ipad. I have noticed that it displays a little different between my windows-based laptop and my android cell phone. Maybe one of the mods knows how to fix it? Here's what it looks like on my laptop:

That looks better coming from your laptop., now I can easily read it.

Sleepy: sometime in the very near future, I will be forced to sell my silver stack of dimes to a silver bullion dealer. Before I do, I'm sure that I can fill several of those "BLACK-Wanted" Rosies that you need. Maybe we can work out a trade if you want them that bad. PM if you want, of those you really want.

Am I understanding this right, that you hunted 6800 bucks worth of dimes in one week?

That is commitment man.

Commitment, obsession, aggressive hobbyist - whatever you wanna call it! :laughing7:

6800 is correct...unfortunately, higher volume didn't yield higher results last week. I know I've seen some guys on here doing higher. This week's starting off well, so we'll see how it goes. Busy week, so I don't think I'll break $5K, but like I said, we'll see.

I'm driven by the results that GMan00001 and I (along with a few others) developed in a thread back in 2013 where we concluded that someone would need to find on average 918 silver FDRs to collect the entire 1946-64 set. As of today, I am currently at 441, so I've got some work to do. I'm further motivated by the fact that I just received another assignment with a report date of April 2020! The assignment I'm in right now is very favorable to me being available during banking hours. My next assignment (like my last one) will likely not be. I'd like to find as much as I can between now and April, but I'm keenly aware of the fact that despite my best efforts, I will likely leave this place in a similar spot to GMan - with a couple FDRs yet to find. :sad11:

How much is the entire set worth? Well, I saw it the other night for $120 on the coin vault network. Might as well just fork out the money and save myself a lot of trouble...Except I'm not primarily motivated by the current value of coin sets/precious metals. I'm in it for the hunt! A guy named jamesandsons that used to be active on here had a quote in his signature box that I really liked:

"We never go after things in themselves, but the pursuit of things." - Blaise Pascal

Dozer, while I truly appreciate the sentiment behind offering to help me fill some of my remaining holes, I don't think I could do it...even if you gave me the coins! At the end of the day, I want to be able to say I coin roll hunted the entire set. Anything less would feel like cheating. As a fellow CRHer, I'm sure you understand.
