Hey All,
I've been so busy lately, and not being able to get out and do any quality detecting,
the wife comes through!!!! My wife is a checker at a major grocery store chain, and
some guy came through her line, and paid for his grocerys with SILVER DOLLARS!!!
There's a few Ike's in there, but it's all good. All she had to do is make sure her
register comes out right, so she bought them dollar for dollar! What a deal!!! Note in
the pictures, the one is in AU condition. Still has the mint luster!! Needless to say, she
was quite the happy camper!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

I guess he just bought run of the mill groceries... nothing special. He did make a
comment, that he got them at an estate sale, and just wasn't a coin collector. ???
At this point, I'm not asking to many questions... they are awaiting a trip to the safe
deposit box.

Man, he had to be desparate to pay with those. Sweet find for your wife.

Wowee! Looks like your wife was in the right place at the right time.

Does she work at Dollar General? ;D
Very cool story.
Congrats,

Not only is he NOT a coin collector, he isn't the brightest bulb in the pack either.....

Darn, too bad he didn't pay in gold coins, now that would have been awesome ;D

HH, Ringfinder

P.S. If the guy comes back with more coins, I'd be following him!!

P.S. P.S. I like the comment, that he isn't the brightest bulb in the pack, That was great Luke!

Let me get this straight - he bought them at an estate sale but he isn't a coin collector? Then why did he buy them? Sounds to me like somebody got ripped off and the guy didn't want to go to a coin shop or a pawn shop where the police might have already put up notices about the theft. Sorry, hope I'm not putting a damper on your good fortune, but my house was burglarized several years ago and it is quite upsetting to know some scum bag bought groceries with coins that may have been somebody's valuable savings or heirlooms.

Must've been one of those "buy one, get 100 free" type deals?

Nice find....... ;)

I think you hit the nail on the head, I hate to put a damper on the find but it's probably someones collection. You might check some news papers in the area, a few days before and a few days after he was in the store, most news papers have a section on police calls. This is a common thing for kids to do they take their parents collections and spend it at stores.

You two may be right, but you may be totally wrong also. There are a lot of dumb people in the world. He may have bought a box of "stuff" at an estate sale, and the coins were a part of it. He wouldn't have necessarily known until he got home with it. Sorry you were robbed TT, but don't get on this guy because of this. I didn't see any big money coins in the pic, so were talking 12-15 dollar coins for the silver, and more or less face value for the Ike's. Everyone needs to get lucky once in a while ;D

A few years ago, my youngest son asked me if I wanted a roll of half dollars he had gotten. He was at a convenience store that was in the neighborhood, and some guy came in with a roll of half dollars to pay for a purchase. My son gave him 10 dollars for them because the cashier didn't want them. About half of them were Franklins, with the rest being about an even split between silver and clad Kennedys.
