Ignorance is bliss stands true I guess.... I think its a good thread, people can get educated on coins and bullion. This coin being both a legal $1 coin and 1oz of bullion.... Is a great starting point to learn... Bullion is investor grade silver .999 fine silver. A coin is legal tender with a face value. This coin is both, period by definition no other way about it... You can't say an apple is not an apple if it really is an apple.. Right ?

Oh lord.... Not a Dummy question at all... Apparently melt value is at around 23.00 now if yours has any collectable value you would have to research it

These coins have only been minted since 1986. How old is the one your mother has? If it's older, it's possible that she has the walking liberty half dollar and not the 1oz American Eagle silver dollar. The obverse of the American eagle dollar has Adolph A. Weinman's Liberty Walking design used on the half dollar coins from 1916-1947.

No it is what happens to society when they think that the freedom of speech includes having no filter on what you say or how you speak to your fellow man. Sorry, but for a page that is supposed to be about a fun hobby where we get some exercise, dig a little history and maybe make a little $, there always seems to be someone with something nasty or negative to say. I am going to start hitting the report button on every inappropriate comment I come across and I hope everyone joins me. Maybe we can get rid of the negativity here and just enjoy sharing our finds and experiences without ridicule and snide remarks.

ok, plain and simple, heres the poop! its a one ounce silver bullion dollar. they use the term dollar only because its not in bar form. they couldnt really commemorate the walking liberty design with a bar, so they put it on a coin and presto... the dollar. most likely given to little Johnny from his gran-pappy on his BD. there is one of those coins from the 1990s i think worth about 5 grand. sold as a proof i think... to lazy to look it up but the chances of that being found at a tot lot are
pretty slim. yours is a great find, its kinda like finding 5 silver quarters in the same hole, which is pretty damn good in my book. NOW GET BACK OUT THERE AND FIND ANOTHER!!
