746 billion for welfare vs 725 billion for ss. Who's the freeloaders again? It isn't those who paid in for years upon years it's all the losers who have paid little to nothing in and receive the bulk of the benefits. Still want to claim the older generations are freeloaders?

Sure you just proved the point yourself. Spending on all socialist programs are at an all time high. Social security, Medicare, unemployment, foodstamps, etc. by definition these are socialist programs or as they are called today "entitlements". And now you can throw bushcare in to the mix also.

So I guess you consider everyone receiving unemployment, foodstamps, etc to be freeloaders??

Look at it this way, Unemployment pays about $500 a week while SS pays $1400 a month. I don't know what the welfare pays but with the food stamps and phone and rent plus extra per kid it's got to be way up there. Frank

That's right, but don't forget that BUSH added a ton to the free entitlement spree by throwing in HIS prescription drug program. Buying the AARP votes with nice entitlements is a game played by BOTH sides. And both sides are guilty with doing not a damn thing to fix it for decades and decades. Both sides. This is what we call politics people. Doing what is right in the short term to be elected - ignoring any long term harm it might do.

There is some truth to what you say about both parties at fault, BUT...the Democrats started socialism in this country, and it took the Republicans about 40 years to figure out they had little chance to escape being gone, except to do the same things the Dems were doing. So, it became a race to see who could offer the most. Now, it's out of control, and there is no escaping what's coming. There is NO fix that doesn't involve massive pain, and the pain can't be escaped. Cut spending to balance the budget and the economy tanks. Raise taxes enough to balance the budget and the economy tanks. Print money to allow the economy to keep going at the present slow growth rate, and inflation goes way up and the economy tanks. People should wise up....the BIG decline is coming, and it's not far off.

If you are an able-bodied adult, below the age of 65 or so, and you are receiving benefits from the government, you're a parasite living off somebody else's labor. That includes extended unemployment benefits. You can sugarcoat it all you want, but not supporting yourself means some other person is supporting you.
