I've been back from the Outer Banks, NC for about a week but just getting around to posting. I'll post my finds pictures first then some other interesting finds.

I only got out for one low tide and I was testing a Garrett SeaMark II water detector. Since I'm not very familiar with this detector there was a big learning curve so not too many finds.

First a very small silver ring and a gold plated silver earring found on the beach. I've included a 1906 Indian Head and part of what I think was a handle to a silver utensil found in a NJ park.

This one could have hurt...

In front of the house we stay at is a shipwreck I thought you may enjoy seeing pictures. It is not usually this exposed but the day after these pictures there was even more showing.

Last but not least is the largest shark I've seen in the wild. This big boy washed up on the beach a few week prior to us arriving in NC. It is a Basking shark and I parked the bike behind it to give you a feel for the size.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the recent warm weather for everyone on the east coast.

Happy hunting.

Thanks for the pictures, THer. We vacation at the Outer Banks quite often...up north at Corolla and Whalehead Beach.

I've found quite a few shipwreck spikes and little copper nails that they used to attach the sheathing to the hull of the ships. Did you find any of those around that wreck? :)

Yes, I have found spikes before. This wreck is in Corolla. My inlaws own a home in Corolla so if anyone wants to rent a home right in front this wreck check out the house 'Dios Del Sol' which is listed through ELAN reality. Next time your in Corolla check out around the horse fence. I read an article a few years ago that they found some old silver and gold coins in that area. I really enjoy the area. I think it is the only place in the states where you can dive on the beach and watch wild horses run.

NJ,

I am no expert on old boats, but that boat looks like it could be from around that era (late 1700s-1800's). I think it would be worth just digging up that chain. What a conversation piece that would be. Those rings look huge! That sand must have preserved that wood because it doesn't look to bad. Be neat to find out the name. Sorry about blabbing. I'm stuck up here in Michigan and stuff like this makes me excited. I need some warm weather! LOL

Great pictures. I would love to hunt a nice beach cut like that.

I vacation at OBX and have seen a few wrecks on the beaches as well. I spoke with a national park service guy who told me they do not allow digging of wrecks on the beach. MDing is ok as long as it is not south of Oregon Inlet on the national seashore stretch.

I know you can't detect on the national seashore stretch but I never heard you can't dig wrecks outside that area. Good to know so I don't get myself into hot water.

I found out by digging around a wreck while the rest of the family was surf fishing. We were south of the inlet. The guy was cool about it and said that they don't really mind the prodding and probing but the actual excavation was prohibited. I think my young daughter and son may have been my saving grace though.

nice pic thanks for the post

You can only detect the beaches of the northern outer banks so depending on where you vacation you may or may not be able to detect. Do a search on google of detecting the outer banks and you should be able to find a list of the beaches you can detect.
