Found this nosecone in France in 1980, site was in Alsace on the French German border and been heavily fought over in both world wars.
This has me stumped though, it is obviously an explosive shell of some kind, bbut why does it have a spiral
top/fuse?. The bottom is threaded.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Looks like it could be part of a contact mine, how close to the river(Rhine) was this found?

Anybody know if the Rhine was "mined" during any war? :dontknow:

EDIT: I did find this , which shows just how much i know about munitions (squat), scroll down to Dec, 5, 2005.

(shrapnel round? , 3 A.M. and i have full blown insomnia)

Thanks for the image, certainly looks as if this is a match with a Shrapnel Round. Still like to find out
what date and which army though. Now I have a starting point thanks.

Sorry, didn't answer your question. Nowhere near the Rhine, up on the NE border with Germany (Alsace - Lorraine)
