Thats a sweet find.I like the shows i seen you on.keep on hunting.

Very cool little piece of gold nice find . Jim

Thats awesome Ron

Viking has to be considered as well. Someone said it will probably be Treasure, there is no question,,,, it will be. I think the Museum will want this one, as it's well provenanced & they tend to go for these ones, rather than the ones declared as 'can't remember where I got it'. I think it might get under valued like my Viking silver bar, only £85, a joke really!

Anyway fingers crossed you may get it back in 20 months.

BIG CONGRATS.

WTG Ron! You're getting spoiled over there. Bet you might not come back.

WOW...Real Treasure! CONGRATS!:hello2::hello2::hello2:

I would like very much to also see what else was found close by in context.

As Cru said, I was also thinking possibly Danegeld/Viking-related. Could have been used to pay the soldiers used to defend the area from the Vikings as well. It's a killer find and the obvious shavings taken off make it an incredibly interesting item. Many thanks for sharing!

Well seeing as no other finds were shown from the Saxon, Viking or medieval period or any other period, it's just a small bar of gold that could be from any period. I did not see any other items posted with provenance to a time period, so I don't see why it should be treasure trove,...unless it has Saxon stamped on the bottom :laughing7:

We have had all period coins and artifacts off this field. This gold arm band ring bought by the Colchester museum,Bronze age Axe head, There is a roman bronze hoard, Saxon Sceat and silver penny were both found on an adjacent field

Awesome finds

Def a banner vote for me.. A piece of gold shaped like that would have been making the MD go nuts and maybe something you would pass up.. It's a banner in my eyes

congrats Ron on the nice find...now for the LONG wait to see if the museum will buy it and what you will get!!

Congrats CR, that is an amazing find for sure. I guess you were buying the beer that night.
