There are some basic fundamental rules that should never be broken for any reason...from any side, left, right, or independent.

1. No matter what the context, it is never okay to make fun of a handicapped child. Never, ever, for any reason. Yes (21, 21, 21) counts as handicapped.
2. No matter what the context, it is never okay to use children as pawns in adult political debate.

2. Totally agree! never ok to attack family, including children, in a political debate. But, then again, Maher is not a politician or political commentator. Nor was this a debate. He is a comedian. And if anything was said, if it was said, it was said behind closed doors as part of an ACT. I think i've said that 12 times now. Where is that banghead emoticon that gets over used here?

Bottom line. There was no reason to even bring up Palin's son if it wasn't to point out his affliction in a negative manner. He wanted to get laughs from his moronic audience and it did not matter at who's expense. I think he knows he's not really funny so he goes way beyond exaggerating the truth so much you can't help but see how stupid he is and laugh at him. Bottom line - you are swinging at imaginary villians. You don't know what was said.

I don't know if he said anything or not. You confused me with your second point. Did you mistype it? It is never okay for a comedian to make fun of handicapped or non-handicapped children. Children do not have a developed enough intellect to understand being made fun of and taking it in stride. Heck, most adults can't do it. Anybody who makes fun of children behind open, closed, or swinging doors for whatever reason is just wrong.

Honestly, this was not one of Walters’ finer moments. She could have made a nice statement – especially someone with her family background – by coming down on this innocent child being the butt of anyone’s jokes.
But no. She had to defend this disgusting man who’s gotten rich viciously attacking folks whose political views he disagrees with.
And what about all that talk about the kids of politicians being off limits?
Sadly, what we’ve learned is that such children are only protected if their parents are Democrats.
