Sarah Palin to Bill Maher: Someone Should Flatten Your Lily White Wimpy A**

The difference in Coulter and Maher using the word ******ed is in the context. Maher directed his word at an actual person with Downs Syndrome where Coulter used the word to describe the President's intelligence. Some might think that gives Coulter a pass on using the word. Those people would be wrong. Interstingly, Maher's use actually discirbes the condition of Trig Palin - Developementally ******ed. That term was the medical term most commonly used until Dr Downs was rewarded for his research in the field with having the condition named after him. it is Coulter's derisive use of the word that serves as example of why it is inapproppriate today. It is a banned word on forums like TNet not because of comedians like Maher calling it what it is, but for people like Coulter using it to emolliate those she disagrees with. The use of the word as a hate word is what has made it inappropriate.

So ridiculing a defenseless child because of a medical disability he was born with is okay as long as it is done as a joke to get laughs for money, but someone else crosses the line when they use the same term to describe a politician:dontknow:................No surprise in you defending Maher...

TH, just pointing out the hypocrisy that runs rapant in these parts.

You guys are busy ripping Maher to shreds over an alleged incident (no one has YET to post a shred of evidence that this actually happened).

Yet you guys seem to very conveniently forget all the terrible nasty things that the right wing pundits/shock jocks have said over the years.

Examples were already stated above... What about Sandra Fluke? Michael J Fox?

Get off the race issue now.

Coily, she didn't call Obama the dreaded "N" word although many blacks do but it is ok for them. It's just a word whitey can't use. Then, if you are a comedian, you can call a 5-year old "ret$$ded" because it is a "legitimate" medical term and the audience (none of whom consider themselves retar$$d) can laugh and cheer at calling a child a "medical" term but, if you are a political commentator you can't call the protected guy the same thing.

I guess I figured she called him the N word which is totally offensive and not acceptable but in turn, the term ******ed is regarded now as totally un PC and very offensive to me.My sister works with special ed kids coaching them in swimming and the word ******ed is offensive to parents of Downs Syndrome kids.I guess we can all agree name calling is not necessarily humorous,no matter what side it comes from.

Sorry Treasure Hunter,I did not see above request.

It is the way that Coulter uses the "R" word that makes it offensive. She uses it as a slur. Several parent groups asked her to retract her statements. BTW, she said it more than once. The Speical Olympics organization asked her to retract her statements. She held her ground. Coulter is nothing without controversy and those statments give her the attention she needs to try to reamain relevant. Still, she remains as relevant as last year's Coach Purse.

As for Maher. Maher says a lot of dumb stuff. He is first to admit it. But, like him or hate hate him, he isn't stupid. Not stupid enough to offend his own audience by attacking children, special needs or not.

That said, there is no official record of what was said, or how it was said.

We know that a right wing zealot was in the crowd of Maher fans. That what was said was said in a closed room to a paying audience out of view of cameras and recorders. IOW, unlike Coulter, he didn't speak to a national audience.

One might question why a right wing, non Maher fan, was in attendance? Did he really hear what he said he heard or is he trying for another 15 minutes of fame to save a faded career?

A right wing ZEAlOT? What gives someone that title? Is it because they might point out the lefts leaning towards fascism? Are you really a left wing ZEALOT ?

Regardless just because Maher is a comedian,it doesn't makes that word any less offensive to me,no matter in what way it was used,it is a slur,Maher just got his hands slapped and probably wasn't concerned about offending his audience, name calling seems to be prevalent on both sides of the political spectrum and comedians say stuff for effect and sometimes it backfires on them.Coulter is known for her mean wicked tongue but Maher, saying something just as offensive with a goofy grin on his face is no less offensive. As we all know though people can twist words and just because a " right wing zealot" was in the audience doesn't give anyone the right to use derogatory language aimed at someone who can't defend themselves.

Dave don't go getting all in a tizzy over the term "right wing zealot".

We content with libtard, lib, liberal, lefty, pinky commie, and worse all the time from this crowd.

Not as harmless as it seems, huh?

And again the difference is maher is a comedian. Comedians are always walking that line between good and bad taste. Going over it at times. Maher goes over it all the time. it's part of his routine. if you don't like it, join the club! A lot of people don't like it. To which Maher would say - good, make lots of noise about it! Getting right wing conservatives worked up is what pays his bills. The more noise you make the better his audience likes it. Be disgusted. His audience is equally offended at some of the things conservs find amusing.

Maher said what he said to a room full of paying fans. He didn't say it in front of a TV camera or into a reporter's tape recorder hoping for a sound bite. That's if he said it. The questions remain as to the true motive of the accuser. Why would a right wing zealot pay to see Maher? Would you pay to see a performer you dislike? Beyond the money why waste your time doing something like that? Just doesn't make sense.

Morons like Palin need to be called out.
And Bill's just the man to do it.
Keep it up Bill M.

it's someone who is so biased they ignore and distort the facts. ie the left is leaning towards fascism.

Bottom line. There was no reason to even bring up Palin's son if it wasn't to point out his affliction in a negative manner. He wanted to get laughs from his moronic audience and it did not matter at who's expense. I think he knows he's not really funny so he goes way beyond exaggerating the truth so much you can't help but see how stupid he is and laugh at him. I know, I know....................."leave bill alone, please leave bill alone...sob, sob, sob :( "

There are some basic fundamental rules that should never be broken for any reason...from any side, left, right, or independent.

1. No matter what the context, it is never okay to make fun of a handicapped child. Never, ever, for any reason. Yes (21, 21, 21) counts as handicapped.
2. No matter what the context, it is never okay to use children as pawns in adult political debate.

my two cents
