Welcome Meep! I see you are new to the forum. Welcome. I am still a newbie prospector myself. Just got back into it about a year ago. Read all the history of San Diego gold you can, then start relating it to a map. There's still good gold in Julian area, but most if not all is private or claimed up. There is supposed to be a little public land in Banner Grade, though I have not been there. Also near Ramona area, that too I have yet to explore. Then you have the desert. Borrego springs area and such. It can be tough to find enough water here to pan it, but it can be done. I found a little area out of Pine Valley, and I am still trying to figure it out. You can always take a trip up to Azuza, and go prospecting the East fork San Gabriel river.... Lots of guys find good gold up there. Good luck to ya!

I live out by Borrego, do you know where I can go out here? Thanks!

I wish I could help you, but I've not much much research on the area. Someone on here might be able to point you in the right direction.

Maybe if Hardprospector pops in, he might be able to help you out. I think he does some digging in the desert, not sure.

Off Montezuma (S22) near Ranchita there is a gold district not far from Borrego. I prospected out there years ago, took Old Wilson Rd back into the diggins, quite a few claims back in there but also open areas(no obvious claim markers). Found some color dry washing.

Well, looks like I'm giving in. Too much driving time to make a trip a day before I leave. I am up in Pasadena with my girl's family for thanksgiving though, so it looks like I'll be making my last East Fork stop on Friday. Good luck up there Dry! If I find a hole worth digging I'll point you there. Someone will need to enjoy it for the winter.

We are heading out this weekend to do the testing on two possible claim sites Dan. I'll let ya know how it goes. Should be larger gold since it's more up stream towards the source.

That's great Jeff. Hope you find some good gold out there, and are able to move on with plans to claim it.

Yeah... If it test out then the fun starts! Dealing with the government types to get the claim filed and the permits issued for the equipment I want to use.

Ya I understand it can be a real hassle, with all the different agencies you have to go to. But it sounds like you've got all the info you need to stake a claim.

Anyone been poking around San Diego lately? I ended up back in town with a lot of free time. Found some fellas moving yards of dirt on the East Fork pulling quarter sized nuggets, talked to some people doing metal detecting in the desert, and here I am with a pan and a tiny sluice hoping for some flowing water near my material.

Not sure about any gold bearing creeks running in the San Diego region. Do most Southern Californians invest in dry washing or metal detecting? That is what it seems like at least.

Meep I've only been at this for a year, so I'm not a ton of help. It seems a bit difficult to find areas with running water in sd county. I've made a couple trip to east fork, I dig it up there, but a long drive from here. Gonna check out some areas around Ramona this winter. Good luck out there.

I've been trying to do the same thing, talking to some friends in Ramona but they just look at me like Im speaking another language when I ask about public streams and creeks. Tried finding maps of Ramona that would show some areas to hunt but striking out even on those. I think Im just going to take a drive up today and check out the areas.

Yeah, East Fork is nice when Im near it. Doesnt make sense to drive up there just to dip a pan though. Hope you find something closer! I know I'll be looking

Meep, D/W can be very productive. However after shoveling dirt all day into your machine it begins to suspiciously resemble work. M/D can sure test a man's patience. It's all fun though . Good luck

Ya most people who don't prospect think we are crazy. And very few people tees days know about public land, creeks etc. me included! Just gotta do tons of research.

I live in Ramona on a hill over looking the paint ball park on Warnock rd.
I might take off and go paning this weekend.

Today was a good day. Got out and found a little local color. Found my largest piece from San Diego, and met up with a great guy Im sure I'll be digging with in the future.
