Took my F75..... cranked the sensitivity down to 40 and tried it in wet salt....noisy ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

But it found lotsa goodies.

All the coppers were in a straight line top to bottom of the beach--very odd...didn,t even dig for 3 of them...laying on top.

Please have a look at the black scoop object...very nice pattern...great shape and great detail.....WHAT IS IT ??

Those are pretty good results for a shore site. I tend to pass on hunting there when the fields are open, but you can be sure if I had the option over the Winter to do it, I surely would.

Could the ornate piece be from the butt of a flintlock pistol? Maybe a really small one?

Great assortment of finds. Can't wait to get out.

Nice finds...I believe the black scoop object.. is a tip/hand piece from a walking stick/cane.

Yes--- that is what i was thinking also.

You can see where there was a hole at the top of it where possibly it was tacked to something ..it is broken there--but other than that it is in perfect shape.

Surprising considering it been in saltwater for god knows how long.

Do you think it`s silver ?
Gary

Good question Gary--- I didn,t try scratching it---was gonna ask you guys what material is might be-- the detail is awesome for saltwater and mud---was half way to low water.

Would it be black like that if it was ?

I think silver does turn black color in salt water...but i don`t know how you would make it shiny again.
You might try looking for a Makers Mark.

Aqua...Silver does turn dark gray or black when in ring form found at the beach. I clean my silver rings with backing soda, vinegar, toothbrush with silver polish. Don't be to quick to clean that piece.......until you're sure what it is...:)

It definitely isn,t tarnished black as i,ve seen silver do--- it looks like a natural color...but there is no corrosion.

Not too many materials that don,t discolor in saltwater.

Great hunt and awesome assortment of of interesting finds.

HH and thanks for sharing,

I would take it to a gunsmith maybe see if one in your area might know of gunsmiths that are familiar with old firearms. "Firearm ornate-ness" is very common in firearms (sorry only two sips of coffee into my day) The angle looks correct for a pistol.

Very possible treble..... the piece is built with a angle to it.... so don,t think it woud go onto something straight like a cane...but perhaps the slanting angle of the butt of a pistol....... dunno... i,m still learning lots about history etc... you guys know way more than i do !!!!!!

And obviously crafted to be shown off with the very nice pattern... quite fancy.

Just a possibility, I'm far from knowing much about history, I just ran with Docbev's suggestion. You are digging history and saving it from total loss. Good job finding it. Maybe make some phone calls to a couple gunsmiths and see what they might know about someone familiar with the old muskets.
