I got out woods hunting this after noon and started a new area on the side of a hill.
It wasn't long and I got a 75 reading on the DFX and I'm thinking silver.
I started digging and I see leather so I widen the hole to be carefull.
The leather was two inches down and the lowest point of the leather was six inches.
I pulled at the leather pouch and it came out and the coins slide out on the dirt
and that's when I seen two gold coins laying on top of each other.
Man I finaly got gold and wasn't sure what they were untill I got home right after I showed MPfish
My neighbor and detecting friend. He keep puting one in his pocket and I was saying don't rub them.
They both are 1914-s Saint-Gaudens,Twenty.Dollar gold. There is writing on the edge
e plu.ri.bus u.num. "Latin. One out of many. The motto of the U.S." and 13 stars.
Yes i'm very happy . It's my first and second gold coins ever. I have pounded that place many a day and a lot of days I came home with nothing.
I'll try to borrow mikes camera with macro setting to get better pic's since my camera is only for general picture takeing. I hope you all can experiance the finding of a gold coin or two.

Congratulations on the 2-20 dollar gold pieces. I bet the story behind the person losing them has been eating at you as well. Can you imagine in those days losing 40 dollars? Most families in those days would have been able to put in there crops for the year on that kinda money. My grampa used to talk about working for WPA all day for one dollar. He said if a man had a good team of mules he would be paid two dollars. I bet you are on cloud nine and you deserve this find and congratulations again on the dream find and banner.

:o :o :o Welcome to the Gold coin club X2! Those are in great shape & to find the pouch with them is very cool!
A dream find for sure.
I was reading an article in W&E magazine the other day about a guy named "Pack Rat". He is a very well know MDer on the west coast & has been hunting since the 1970's. Anyway, they asked him a bunch of questions about what was his first find, best find, funnest find....then they asked him what was still on his list to find after all these years. He said " like many, I would like to find a gold coin".
Just goes to show how hard it is to find one. And you found 2!!! You are truly blessed!
Congrats to you on this special find And making the banner!
Thank you rtde3. I've been wanting to find a gold coin from the first day I held a detector.
