According to the Associated Press on Yahoo News, five hours ago, a vessel with nine crew and 700 tons of gold ore is missing in stormy seas off Russia's Pacific Coast.

The ship sent a distress call on Sunday as it was sailing from Neran to Feklistov Island on the Sea of Okhotsk.

The vessel, hired by mining company Polymetal, was traveling from one deposit to another where it was to be processed.

Gold is extracted from the gold ore and contains a small percentage of the precious metal.

A Polymetal spokeman on Monday would not estimate the value of the cargo.
