Finds Obverse 050924.jpgFinds Reverse 050924.jpg

Road finds, so definitely rough. The shield nickel is an 1874...a more desirable date. The fatty is 1862.

Tag 050924.jpg

Most interesting piece was this one. I'm calling it a tag though it's missing the obligatory hole. Appears to say "Stuttz", "5". The reverse simply has a 5.

Today's finds...

1862 Indian Head Penny
1874 Shield Nickel
Tag, "Stuttz", "5".

Congrats on the 1874! I didn't get one in the Decatur dig. I did get FOUR 1870s and an 1873. I got an 1862 fatty in a house yard a couple of months ago. The only other 1862 IHP I got was in the Decatur dig. That also is a tough date.

We will have to get together sometime, maybe for a field hunt. Ever heard of Ramptown here in Cass County? I have permission from the landowner to hunt that field.

I managed to get the 1880 shield several years ago, and in the same general location as this '74.

Have not heard of Ramptown. A hunt of any of those ghosted towns would be great.

Sure, I field hunt sometime sounds like fun!

I’m just a couple hour drive from MI, would love to join on you on a hunt! I have 1000s of acres of permission if you would want to come to Ohio when the crops are off!

I'm at least an hour and a half from OH. That could be a hike. But could possibly do it.

Great to find a shield with any detail. The tag could be a primitively manufactured token?

Finally took time to clean up the tag. So impressed with the results, I decided to share. I've been told it may be a picker's tag.
