In the morning we stopped off & had a chat with one of the guys who works on the farm. He started up detecting when we first got permission & we somewhat coached him at the beginning. He had a sceat off this site in the first year he started! However, he has spent most his time digging crashed WWII planes. Before we left he called out 'go find yourself a Sceat', so I did.:thumbsup:
Over the years we have pasted this site & the small 3-4 inch turn didn't help us much although it is our flattest choice right now, so off we gridded.
I did 5 hours & Cru'Dad 3.5 hours;

Roman Pottery & animal teeth
1 Saxon Pot Shard
11 Roman Coins (1 holed in the Saxon period)
Circa 700 AD Silver Saxon Sceat. We can only really hope to get 1 a year, so the pressures off this year.:headbang:

UPDATE from expert;

''This is a good example of Series E (variety G2), which is from the Primary Phase of the sceat coinage (690s-c. 720), with 23 other finds on EMC.
This is a coinage from the Netherlands - possibly Domburg, but that is far from certain. Ruler unknown.''

You always impress us with your old finds over there. We are thrilled to dig "seated"....But you show us "sceated". Is it even pronounced that way..:thumbsup:
In Anglo-Saxon types it would be pronounced 'Shat'.:thumbsup:

I've been hunting for nearly 30 years, Cru'dad about 10 years or so less.

I have had some extremely rare types of Sceat that may have deserved banner in the pass but this type although a rare find would not be worth more than ยฃ100, so not really banner worthy IMO.

If I found one over here, it probably would be! I would sh*t if I found a shat!:laughing7::hello2:

NICE FINDS CRUZ....

:dontknow: According to the banner rules the find must be Rare to the Banner Finds" not necessarily "Rare according to the Books". On the Banner's list there's only one Sceat from another member which you have voted.
It was a 2008 find, ten years ago. You have found three on 30 years, if i'm right ( wow, thats too much, i have been hunting only for three years). So its banner twice.
PS. On my first year i found a Bronze Pallus pendant and later a lead roman head but noboy voted. I've never seen similar finds till now on T-Net.

Nope lets clarify the stats.
We have had over 20 Sceats in our combined 40 years of hunting. This is the only type I have had that is a exact match for 2 others, so 3 of its type.

New guy here. Am I correct to assume this was found in GB?
Welcome to Tnet & yes you are right its a British find. Although these primary Sceat's were minted in Netherlands & brought over in the early days before most of our Mints took off again after gap of no coins.
