Took another day off work to try some more Barley Fields. Cru'Dad had done some hunting yesterday (picture 1) & scouted out which fields are available. The first field I picked from the list, I knew had some cropmarks on but we had found very little in previous years, but worth another try.
First Field (2 hrs) - Roman Bronze Bull, Tudor Buckle, 1 Roman Coin
Second Field (1 hr & 15 mins) - Medieval Belt Mount, not much else
Third Field (1 hr) - Tudor Book Clasp,Poor hammered coin, Spur, Great Northern Railway Button

The Story:
We arrived at the first field & I had a plan in my head as to where we would start gridding (over the cropmark). However, as soon as I walked into the field, I had an erge/feeling to try right in the middle of the field. Now although I don't like to leave anything to 'chance', I do always listern to my instincts. Therefore, I sent Cru'dad over to start plan 'A' & I peeled off. After less than 30 minutes of making my way over to the middle, & on my 4th dig, up popped the surprise Roman Bronze Bull (only missing a small 'loop' of the tail). I called Dad over, he GPSed it & we gridded that area with nothing else to show.:icon_scratch: A Roman or Celtic animal/person figure was in my top 5 Wish List for many years, but I kind of cheated & crossed it off when I got a Roman Mars Bust Knife Terminal. Now I can really cross it off.:headbang:
THERE ARE NONE RECORDED WITH THE PAS OR UKDFD DATABASE!
What more can I say other than 'thank-you Lord' & this story was not bull.

Congratulations on the find! :headbang: .... is a reward for absolute dedication and persistence in relic hunting .... remember the number 6 in your list ...is the Spanish silver! :icon_thumleft:

Really nice banner ossi

Simply Amazing

Well done Cru!!

Happy Hunting,

Dan

That is really an amazing find! Is there any signifigance to the band around the bulls' midsection? It is writing? Or just decoration?

It is decorated with some kind of 'band' of small circles, I have yet to find out the significance of it yet, but it must mean something. We will take it along to a Roman expert & see what he thinks, I will update if I find out anything.

1 theory is that it has a Celtic influence or as sometimes described 'Romano-Celtic'.

Wow, that is beautiful and in great shape. Congrats on the well-deserved banner!

Congratulations on another incredible find! It's beautiful, finds like these must make you feel very fortunate to have opportunities to detect in such history rich areas!

Another for your museum !

Ahh, another singular recovery. This type is my personal favorite.

although there may be similar pieces around, each was crafted individually,

and therefore unique.

Certainly a find worthy of celebration :occasion14:

I find it somewhat strange how property owners can be nonchalant about significant finds,
I've experienced this also...

Congratulations and thanks for the inspiration you give to this newcomer.
Best wishes & HH to you, Herbie.

Who would ever think there was any 'Bull' in Tnet Finds postings :laughing9:

AMAZING!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers, I'm awaiting an expert's judgement, but I have a feeling it will come back better than I thought, ie Celtic or Romano-Celtic (my 2nd best preference).

well done very nice you have alot of time on your hands to go out metal detecting all the time which pays off lovely

Cru,

Sorry for my delayed response. I just don't know what I can say except that this is a find of a lifetime. I know that seems to happen to you or CruDad with some frequency, but this votive figure absolutely leaves me speechless.

Congratulations on another well-deserved Banner Find, and Long Live the CruTeam!
