XP Deus II v0.6 with 11" Coil
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Took another day off work to try some more Barley Fields. Cru'Dad had done some hunting yesterday (picture 1) & scouted out which fields are available. The first field I picked from the list, I knew had some cropmarks on but we had found very little in previous years, but worth another try.
First Field (2 hrs) - Roman Bronze Bull, Tudor Buckle, 1 Roman Coin
Second Field (1 hr & 15 mins) - Medieval Belt Mount, not much else
Third Field (1 hr) - Tudor Book Clasp,Poor hammered coin, Spur, Great Northern Railway Button

The Story:
We arrived at the first field & I had a plan in my head as to where we would start gridding (over the cropmark). However, as soon as I walked into the field, I had an erge/feeling to try right in the middle of the field. Now although I don't like to leave anything to 'chance', I do always listern to my instincts. Therefore, I sent Cru'dad over to start plan 'A' & I peeled off. After less than 30 minutes of making my way over to the middle, & on my 4th dig, up popped the surprise Roman Bronze Bull (only missing a small 'loop' of the tail). I called Dad over, he GPSed it & we gridded that area with nothing else to show.:icon_scratch: A Roman or Celtic animal/person figure was in my top 5 Wish List for many years, but I kind of cheated & crossed it off when I got a Roman Mars Bust Knife Terminal. Now I can really cross it off.:headbang:
THERE ARE NONE RECORDED WITH THE PAS OR UKDFD DATABASE!
What more can I say other than 'thank-you Lord' & this story was not bull.

Congrats! :hello2: What a Fantastic find! Hard to imagine the thrill of finding that and holding it in your hand.

Banner for sure!

Is that considered "treasure" and need to be turned in?

Thank-you all for your comments.

The hobby has to be one of the best in the world:icon_thumright:

I forgot to say, after the 2 hours on the field we took the 'Bull' straight down to the farmer to show him. This was by far the best find we have ever had on his land after about 7 years hunting but he showed no interest in wanting it or any money, so its now 100% mine.8-)

It's not Treasure, but worthy of recording, & as said above the farmer was happy for me to have it.

cool finds !

bull too :occasion14:

Hey cru. I'll trade you a hunt in NJ for tabs and clad for a hunt like any of yours. After the hunt I know this place here that serves a great tomato pie.

not so keen on the pie, it sounds a little healthy

Amazing, simply amazing. Will you be able to keep it?
And being the ever ignorant American, what's the history behind it?

Yeap, its now legally mine to keep.

These are so rare it's hard to 'know' the history, but it's 1800 years old probably made as a votive offering, although it's bigger than most I have seen. It could be suggested that this was a portable favoured 'shrine item', as it was lost in the middle of no-where.

Best hobby no question.

Hey even if your bull wasn't old rare, and valuable, it would still be a cool find.

Perhaps a Roman soldier took it in combat...I'm not sure a Roman soldier could worship anything or anyone except Caesar...
Great finds! If this isn't BANNER than what is???? Very cool!

Well spotted, it was Cru'dad's little heart stopper, turned out to be a kids aluminium ring (& yes over a .50cal)

Woke up this morning & noticed it on the Banner - THANKS GUYS!

They could worship any of the Roman Gods, it's something Caesar allowed to maximise the favour of all the different cultures they had captured/recuited into the army.

Wow that is in great shape good find indeed ! Jim

Bull has appeared where worth.Congratulation for a new BANNER :hello2:
