My oldest daughter said she had some time off at the first of this month and wanted to take the grandson on a road trip. She wanted to go to Moab, but I told her it won't be all that fun over that way with the teeth of winter biting down on the Rockies and let's instead go south. I got packed on New years day and reserved a rental in Ft. Collins for the next morning where they live and hit the road at 9AM on the 2nd. First day was all the way to Roswell, New Mexico. The following day the grandson was up and atom and off we went to Carlsbad Caverns and experienced the wonders of 730ft underground. After the Caverns we made our way to Alamogordo, NM. The next day we spend about 3 hours at White Sands NP and played in all that soft and silky sand sliding down the slopes and the grandson though it was cool you could run down hill and take a leap and land on your belly without getting hurt. We planned then to head maybe to Santa Fe and go to Taos, but checking the weather was questionable to me and we drove all the way to Las Vegas. MN instead. Getting up in Las Vegas we all went up to the hot springs outside of town a took a dip. So relaxing that was and it doesn't cost a dime to jump in. That day the grandson was so excited to see Mt Capulin the last volcano to blow in New Mexico. Sadly the winds were high and for some reason there was a notification on the website that said the road to Capulin was closed for 2 hours at a time throughout the day, so we didn't go. We made good on roaming around the town of Raton and from there made it back to Ft. Collins last Sunday at 6pm. My travel companions were so pleased with my itinerary and said it was the best trip they had in a long time.
