Having a family cookout at a park today and I spent a bit over an hour swinging coil with my old Fisher F2, getting a bit of ribbing from the kin. Isn't it amazing how interested people get once you find something though? I found a few clad coins and a toy car, then got my find of the day. I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed when I saw "10KP" inside... any ring is treasure to me, so I'm thrilled, but would you claim it as a gold find if it was yours? Lesson for us all - keep your MD handy and you never know when an opportunity will arise!

Guys lets not forget about the good ol Magnet test. If it is plate it will stick to a magnet.

Not necessarily. It would depend on the base metal.

As mentioned, it's 10KP as in 10 karat plumb. I like seeing that! I'd be a bit worried about the PMS inside though! :violent1:

MAYBE. Old gold plated rings were brass and silver sometimes. I have found many that were marked 14K and were not even gold.

RG = Rolled Gold

HGE = Heavy Gold Electroplate

GF = Gold Filled

Gold Shell = plated

GP = Gold Plate *****ADDED due to error*****

All the above are pretty much worthless unless over sterling.

KP = As stated Plumb Gold. Exactly 10K , no more no less. *****EDITED******

Congrats on a gold find!

All the ones I've seen that had GP inside were Gold Plated. The Plumb ones were all KP. Have you found some with GP that were Plumb?

MY mistake. KP is Karat Plumb

GP is gold plate. Thanks for catching that error.

(Not that I have found any gold rings though)
