Review- Minelab CTX 3030 1st Month

GH

I have had the CTX for three days now and tried hunting in the programed modes (relic mode) with the TT and switching back and forth between manual and auto sensitivity. I wasn't pleased at all, I was trying to use it like an explorer. While I dug a few good targets the junk was killing me. It was awkward in pinpointing and recovery too, I really liked the X1 probe, I'm using the garrett probe and there is usually multiple targets per hole. The trashy the better for me, as this keeps most folks away. Anyhow after hours of google and reading, your name kept coming up. I loaded the combined program with your tutorial available on video. Just doing this I understand it a bit more and look forward to getting proficient with the CTX. Failure is not an option. Deer season closes Jan 1, can't wait to get in the woods here as thats our prime time hunting. I hope to have it down by then, or at least enough to make me glad I have the CTX. I'll try again tomorrow.

I wish minelab would get onboard and use the mac platform too.
Phillip, It's good to hear that it is helping you.. If you have any question's just let me know.. Evan

had a few minutes between doing domestic duties and was dying to try GH combined settings I took to the front yard, running 21 manual. My second signal was at !0" it read 12-something I knew it was a good one. Out comes a perfect eagle button. I dug the buckshot and other lead fragments hoping for a cuff button. The cleaner bullets just rang out. My confidence definitely went up today. I reread the manual on pin-pointing and gained new insight there too. I'm not much for taking direction from manuals until all else fails. heres a pic of finds from about 35 to 45min of swinging. My yard has been beat to death with all kinds of detectors, I lived here since 1996 and been beating it myself. I highly recommend GHcombined settings, I like to run wide open. Can't wait for the next time out.

Happy New Year to all and good luck on the hunting

GH... You are very generous to share your expertise. Thx.

Gone Hunting is a huge asset! His program is the best I have ever used!

I am going to upload these again to make sure I have the right ones. Lol. Even though I found silver with what I hope I fallowed correctly on your video.

Thanks for the help setting up the programs. We messaged back and forth on FM. I went out today and got 3 wheats 2 silvers. One of which was a 42 walker.

GoneHunting,
It is people like yourself that offer good information/settings/use tips/know how/etc. that brought me to this site in the first place,
thank you for continuing this philosophy!

I am a White's user with limited time available for detecting or maybe I just do not use my time wisely. I am hopeful that I will be
able to get out more often in the city with my XLT and will see what happens in my current geographical area. I am interested in new
technology and other machines and from your presentation of the CTX I am tempted even though my current situation is not conducive
for that size of a purchase.

A question - do you think the CTX would be useful for prospecting? I "LOVE" backpacking off into the true wilds of this country and
find prospecting to be an added part of my adventures and activities and have found some gold with the help of my GMT. Ahh, so much to
do with so little time. Again, Thank You...........63bkpkr

without any experience looking for gold I couldn't be totally accurate, but with the sensitivity needed to see really small targets , I would not think the CTX would be the best machine to do that.. the gps feature would be awesome to track your finds and it being waterproof would also help but, I don't think it would be sensitive enough to see the tiny gold that you would want to find.. if your wanting to stay Minelab, the 705 Gold pack(not waterproof) now if your wanting portability the XpDeus(not waterproof) has got to be the lightest and most portable machine I have ever held..it is super sensitive, I have found pieces of percussion caps and very small links to jewelry chains and even a copper bb's just to see what they were.. A cheaper, but tough machine that comes with a small coil especially for prospecting, would be the AT Gold by Garrett.(waterproof, extra waterproof headphone purchase needed to submerge totally) It's light and can be taken down to fit in a pack. The reason I have mentioned these are because not only can you prospect with them but you can also coin/relic hunt with just the change of a setting or coil. or with no change at all. And I have used all of these to hunt.. again I have never prospected so just an opinion... hope this helps..

Great last post about gold Gone! Agreed totally!

Don't forget the Fisher gold bug pro and Teknetics G2. Both great gold machines too!

gonehunting, again thank you for your response and inputs on the machines you've actually used. I like the idea of a dual purpose
machine but I was hoping the CTX would be it. I've a call in to Bart and will chit chat with him about the CTX and hopefully will get
in a little time with my XLT before my shoulder surgery and that is likely to end detecting for awhile. You fellas really are having fun
with your CTX's!...............63bkpkr

185_8517.JPG I had a great adventure finding these nuggets and I'm looking forward to more and
hopefully in 2013.
