I found a dog tag from a WWII army barracks site and i was wondering if anyone out there could help me find his relative since him and his wife are both deceased. His name is William H. Buckley and was married to lorayne buckley and they lived in Willmar Minnesota. And it found in Fresno California.

Thanks for the help!!

Hey Benj - I am from Minnesota and have returned a dog tag myself. I will check it out and let you know what I find.

Okay thanks! Ive always wanted to find one and i finally did. :) Hopefully i can give it to someone in his family.

Have you seen this? That's your man and his wife Lorayne Grace Buckley (who passed away on 30 Sept. 2004). This pic was taken in 1942 when her last name was Howell.

that is a cool photo, and great research on your part Mack. Hope this dog tag gets to someone who is related to the soldier. As a veteran myself, and with family members who served in WWII I know the importance of these things to vets and their families. Good luck to the finder in returning this tag.

If you look at flowers & photos, these were added by a possible "neice", Forget Me Nots for Uncle Bill and Aunt Tene

Most members of Find A Grave will have a biography, Shelia Rodning does not. Possibility someone could locate her.

I "googled" her name (lives in Fergus Falls, MN) & found her active on FB https://www.facebook.com/sheila.rodning?fref=ts
I will notify her to find out for certain.

Here's more on this hero: (Does your dog tag reflect the same serial number as shown below?)
LAST KNOWN RESIDENCE Wilkin County, Minnesota
BORN ca. 1921
EDUCATION 4 Years Of High School
PROFESSIONS Semiskilled Drillers, Extraction Of Minerals and Construction
MILITARY SERVICE Military serial#: 17108592
Enlisted: September 9, 1942 in Ft Snelling Minnesota
Military branch: Air Corps
Don.......

Here's another clue:
A memory note was left at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery for William. The memory was from Uncle Bill and Aunt Tene. Find them (perhaps through "Sheila" through the site mentioned beolow) and you'll have a next of kin'.

He may have truly been a hero: Silver Star recipient.
But before you announce that, it should be confirmed with the proper documentation--or verbal affirmative from his next of kin. Keep in mind there may have been another soldier with the same name who won this award; need to match serial numbers or some other verifiable means.

The 'tracks are still fresh'.
I believe you'll find the next of kin.
The guest list--those who wish to leave a memo of remembrance at the cemetery-- is also another source. You can talk to the admin. office at the cemetery, advise them of your quest and they should be able to give you more info if they have it.

Ringfinder found out that he didnt have any kids and his family that is alive is his brother. Im going to hopefully call him today so i can send it to him. But the numbers match up.

Have not heard anything back from Shelia. She probably is the daughter of this brother. She addresses in Find A Grave as her Uncle Bill & Aunt Tene, another area she addresses as her God Parents.

Yep you guys missed one and it was on the surface! I called williams brother tommy today and its going to be sent in the mail tomorrow along with a button and steel wheatie.

You might ask William's brother to send you a pic of he holding the tag, then post it here once you receive his permission to post. I'd bet that pic would be a nice piece of 'closure' you could keep as a token of your effort to return the tag.

Hey Benjy! Nice work...you and all the helpers on here..getting the tag back to kin!:hello2::hello2::hello2:

My own experience almost had a quick end. I contacted the living widow of the soldier of my tag and she promptly hung up on me! A year later we got reconnected by way of her daughter. Here's a link in case you want to see what happened ..it did end well. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/h...h-find-update-2010-soldier-s-photo-added.html
