Metal Detecting
Haven't been out detecting sense early December. Finally got out today and decided to hit an old house that I got permission to detect. I don't have a detector at the moment so I used my son's Ground EFX youth detector. It doesn't go very deep, maybe 3 inches at the most but it was fun. I can't wait to get an AT Pro out there. On to the finds...

I found 3 wheat pennies and 1 memorial. 1945-D, 1940, 1934, 1970-D. I also found my first harmonica reed along with a ton of other neat finds and trash. Not sure what some of it is or what they go to, like the shims. I added a few photos of the site. Enjoy...

I don't want to tell you what to do but the at pro is what I would pick can take it in water or rain I don't know nothing about the other one your talking about but my at pro has made me happy. Very cool sites I wish I could join you lol

That's the machine I'm leaning towards. I could get a nice setup for the money and still have a little extra but I do like the boost process on the F75.

Use the extra money to get a pro pointer

I was thinking AT Pro, 5x8 coil, Pro Pointer, relic shovel and maybe the headphone adapter and Grey Ghost headphones.

No nothing on the inside. I haven't gone in, the floor is collapsing. Here is a few picture I took from the window. I can get more next time I get out.

Very cool looking old house. Any old door knobs, cabinet hardware, etc will be good to save.

I have a rim lock with all the hardware including the door knobs, catch, and all the original screws. The door was on the side that collapsed. I did restore the lock back to working condition and it looks nice, I just need to find a key.

Very cool site I wouldn't be surprised if there was stuff under the floor or in the walls

I would definitely check out the backyard... And dig anything that might be a lid to a mason jar

I have had the same exact. Hard to beat. On the shovel make sure that it has a "flat" tip to cut through roots. I have a Sampson for lawns and a relic shovel with a more blunt end for woods and tree roots.

Any suggestions on what machine would be better for the job? I have a $1200 budget. Yay Taxes!!!
Slightly use Etrac would be my choice with an X5 or X8 Sunray coil. In 2 tone ferrous you could clean up goodies out of iron infested site.

Very nice find

Thanks. I was using a cheap child's detector.
Thanks for the tip Pointman.

As for the Etrac, I heard it wasn't very good at unmasking targets in iron. We have a lot of red clay here in North Mississippi so I need a machine that can handle it along with the iron.

Not sure who told you that, but it couldn't be more wrong if you know how to use an Etrac in iron infested sites. With any machine you get the trick to picking targets out of iron is using very little discrimination and being able to hear iron sounds, and the non-ferrous sounds (hence 2 tone ferrous on the Etrac). The worst thing to do is crank up the disc trying to get rid of trash and you'll miss a lot from masking. Good luck with whatever you decide on.

He's right.. also swinging over the same piece of ground in several directions can pick up items that are masked from one direction but not another

FISHER F-75 LTD, with the boost mode you need a shovel. Might find a cache there. Love my F 75 very powerful and sensetive,, If you want a all weather detector the at pro is great ,, and you can use it in a river or stream,, several guys in my club use it and have good finds,,,

I have a T2 SE and it is very deep and super sensitive. The F 75 is very similar and those 2 machines are favorites of lots of relic hunters that want super depth and to find very small objects at those depths. Can't go wrong with any of the 3 but the T2 and F75 will get you a bit more depth. They can also be a bit chatty due to the sensitivity so I boils down to your specific hunting conditions. Good luck whatever way you go

yup I love finding old keys and padlocks for some reason. (of course I love the silver, gold, jewelry and artifacts as well :D)

Find any holes in the floor or crack where the baseboard meets the floor and look below in the dirt, I was working on a old house repairing the floor and everything was piled up in one corner of the room. Look for loose floor boards there might be a cache under them, Dig the jiffy
