Dad & I went looking for any grassland that might be available. We got lucky, as a small area of our 2nd Fav Field which the farmer had turned to grass/hay was available. We were very disappointed he had done this to a 3 acre strip as it meant no more ploughing up of good finds. However, today we were glad he did it, as in June we have nothing, & this recently cut hay, which he cut early & green for silage, was perfect hunting ground!
Only cover 1/4 of the area & got the following:
Livery Button
Lead Pilgrims Ampulla from the Holy Shrine of Walsingham - Excellent find
Our first Medieval Dagger Quillion
Medieval dagger chape with blade still in it!
Medieval casket Key
4 Scrappies
Early Jetton
3 Lead Tokens
3 Rose Farthings (1620s)
One of the best Medieval Seal Matrix I have ever found I have had 3 excellent examples this year & all different types, the other two were; Lead oval type, & Bronze 'chess' type.
This one is complete with loop on the reverse
Guess where we will be tomorrow
