Was really a Deputy. I retired 2 years ago after 30 yrs. I can only imagine that someone buried it and never had a chance to recover it.

I figured you were ex-LE.

That's interesting, to say the least. Maybe a theft? A cache in any case.

Really cool.

Super find--nicely done!!

All the best,

Lanny

Dave - you should go out and really hit that area hard- just interested in some thing? was it on an old homested? did you just find this in the woods? I'm wondering if it was some place that would have been visible from the house. might be a good idea to go and hit that area hard, got a what if for you- what if this was her stash, and his was some place else on that property- most farmers wouldn't put all the eggs in one basket right? :) I'd bet the same applies here- again Dave- outstanding find! that is an insane amount of silver coins in one dig! :)

The area I found this in looks to be an old homesite. there was a lot of old bricks laying around and pieces of tin. It is very close to a rail road tressell. I have found other items dating back to the Civil war in the same area. I was told shortly after finding these coins by someone familiar with the area that a bank robbery had taken place in the 1930s and the robbers had been pursued by the Local Sheriff and his Deputies to the area of the train tressell. The men refused to give up. the robbers were killed and none of the money was recovered. I was wondering if this could have been some part of what was stolen. I'm Still trying to find out more about it.

Wow that was a very nice find! Congratulations on finding all those coins!:icon_thumleft:
