I finally got out on tuesday for the third hunt of the year. Just been a waiting game before snowstorms and enough heat to melt the snow. So I walked a mile or two of my favorite creek bank and found a few artifacts. I got a couple in situs along the way. Besides some points, blades, and tools I found a worked piece of greenish slate. Thanks for stopping by and HH folks.

Nice points 37. The green slate looks like the net wieghts we find here notched on opposite sides. But we are on the bay. Dont know if they were used in creeks.

Thanks for bringing up those notched weights. I've never found one like it down here but the form is very similar. I remember a few months back a member here posted a whole frame of those I think he was from Pa.? I'm gonna hunt down that post. Thanks bsit.
No prob. Your right he was from pa. I dont think it was jeff though.

I wasn't the guy from PA who posted the original pics of the net sinkers....but here are two that I found this spring in Western PA. I ended up finding around a dozen or so in this field. They were all in fairly close proximity. I theorize that at one point, there was a stash of them together. The camp is on a windswept high spot above the river. There were many more favorable locations during the winter months, so I assume it was a summer hunting/fishing camp.

i'd have to agree with net weight. though they may not be really heavy, there was probably more than one used per net. JMO.... :icon_thumleft:

Good point, appreciate your opinion.

Thanks for the info and reference pictures Hutch. After seeing the similarities in size and form in your pieces and this thread, http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,373369.0.html and a cache of them from Pa. (scroll down a bit ) http://twipa.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html , I think I can say that's what I found, just one made of atypical material imo. Thanks alot for the information and comments and opinions guys.
