Today I headed back to the early 1800’s stone chimney property that I’ve been detecting at. I was only there about 5 minutes and got a somewhat iffy signal. After digging through some roots and pulling out a square nail and a Mason jar lid, there was still a signal. I reached my hand into the hole and worked the find around some roots. To my amazement I popped this relic out and saw the “US” on it! I thought it was a buckle of sorts but had no idea how old? I headed to the truck to get my video camera and shot this video. Still shocked, I e-mailed a few Tnet members from my Blackberry to see if they knew what it was. After waiting for a reply for about an hour, Ty finally responded back that it was an Anson Mill’s belt plate from the American Indian War era (Circa 1881-1894). Later I learned these buckles were used during the Spanish American War also. The buckle is brass and dated “Feb. 1, 1881” on the back. About two weeks ago I dug my first bullet from that era too (.45/70) at the same property. At first I was a bit disappointed that this wasn’t a CW era buckle, but then realized that I had never seen one of these “H” buckles posted on Tnet before. Have you??? :dontknow: :icon_scratch: My other finds were: *1919 Wheat penny *”Gilt” domed top button w/shank *Cosmetic compact *Rusty hook No snakes today, but I did pull FIVE ticks off of my clothing. :o Thanks for looking. MM

I have not ever seen one of those either. We used to dig a lot of U.S 6th calvary from that era but nothing as nice as that. It looks great on the Banner bar. Well deserved. Neat history there.

Looks like a great spot, Great see the daffodils up and about again. My wife has been buying them, 3 bulbs for ten bucks :o

3 or $10. :o Just buy those plastic flower for $1.00 they last longer. If the colors fade you can just hit them with some spray paint. You should get a good 10 years out of those. Do you think your wife will know? :violent1: :laughing9:
Thanks Bob.

Capt,
That would be a great idea. I've only used their Silver Umax all these years of detecting and it has found about everything. My best find being the "NC" Civil War buckle (my avatar). They could at least fly me out to Arizona to tour the plant and treat me to an armadillo burger. :dontknow: :laughing9:
Thanks,
Doug

Kuger,
I would LOVE to see that photo if you ever find it. I could use it as a backdrop in the display.
Thanks,
Doug

Thanks Thrilla.
I've already cleaned out my wifes clothes and shoes from the closet to set up more displays.
Just kidding, she booted me out to the shed. (Man Cave) :laughing9:

Excellent piece of history you saved there, Doug! :occasion14: WTG Congrats on the banner, too. :icon_thumright:

I'll pass on the ticks, though. :-\ I tried to hunt my favorite LC cornfield this a.m.....no ticks but with an overnight low of 18 degrees I couldn't get my shovel in more than a half inch. :tongue3: :'(

Keep up the great hunting out there!
