Sgt. Whitey, first off, "Semper Fi" Devil Dawg. Congrat's on some super saves of CW History. Good detail on the front of the breastplate. Have you had any luck in IDing the plate yet? Let us know when you know the I'D of this plate. I'm anxious to learn what it is. Happy for you brother on saving some History. Continued Success to you.:usflag:

Useful info, I've been following this thread because I could tell that it was a Rare find but didn't known how Rare.

OOHRAH!!! Yes it is a rare OHIO UNION CIVIL WAR breast plate.

Over the Top Save of our CW History brother Devil Dawg. Post some pig's if you will, once you have it cleaned up. I had never seen one of these. Very cool indeed.

Great find!!

It's hard to find the actual value of this plate because they don't come up for sale that often.

But I don't know if $10,000 is an accurate number or not but I do know it is in the thousands for sure.

Contact Rafael Eledge of ShilohRelics.com , and he can most likely give you an idea of the value, he sold a unexcavated one about a year ago and I'm sure an excavated one would have a lesser value of course.

Honestly, not interested in parting with it. I think one day I will, but not any time soon. 🤙🏻🤙🏻

Very Nice find! My neighbor has one he found as a kid in a muddy cow field after a heavy rain. They are pretty hard to come by. Congrats.

Sgt. Whitey, Thanks for posting the pic.'s of your Ohio breastplate. It is in great shape and shows some really nice detail. Don't sell it. The History of this plate to me personally, is worth more than any dollar value. A Real rare piece. Again, Congrat's, and "Semper Fi."

Spectacular, a lifetime find for many- Congrats!!

Yes I read where you posted that you weren't interested in selling, I just thought you might like to know the real value from a dealer, I'm sure most of us would be interested in what the value actually is.
