Has been mostly identified, but don't know who used it. If anybody has any new info please let me know thanks, was found in new Bern nc
That button, as far as I knew, had only been found in non- dug condition. It is the first specimen I have ever heard of being dug. This is a monumental find! Unless you are an educated, hard core Civil War relic hunter most people won't realize what they are looking at and know how rare a find this really is! This is a find of a lifetime and I congratulate you on saving this button for generations to come! OUTSTANDING!!! The last non dug specimen I saw for sale had a price tag of 9 grand! All I can say is BANNER, BANNER, BANNER, all day long!!! If you ever decide to part with that button please let me know. Congrats again, she is a beaut!!! Devonrex

What a great find! What else did you find there? Can someone post a link about this button so we can read more about this button?

I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about CW buttons.... But that's a new one to me. Wow. Seriously impressive, and in great condition. That's a definite banner vote from me.

Problem is...... Even the experts don't know a lot. It's that rare. From the little that's out there that I've seen, its a VERY small run production pre-war NC militia button. Produced and imported from England prior to the War, and in almost all likelihood worn on Confederate uniforms when the War broke out. Beyond that, I don't think anyone knows exactly who wore them. Something of a fascinating mystery, which kind of adds to the appeal in my book. A small batch of NC militia/confederate buttons that have been almost, but not quite, lost from history.

Congrats on saving nice piece of NC history. Sounds like you found something even the experts can't ID.

The capped coin is what really gets me going. WOW.

Best of luck to you in the field!

Welcome to tnet, and it sounds like you found an incredible button. Devonrex really knows his stuff, so it indeed sounds very rare. Nice one and hit that place hard. Anyplace I've found a CW button, I've found more than one!
