An original civil war photo, showing the yankee ironclad Onondaga at anchor in the James River below Richmond VA in 1865. Many people have seen photos or paintings of the first yankee ironclad warship, the USS Monitor, which fought the famous duel with the first Confederate ironclad, the CSS Virginia, also called the Merrimack. So, to most people, the yankee ironclads had only a single turret. But in 1864 the yanks came out with twin-turreted ironclads. Each turret held two heavy-caliber cannons, including a 15-inch caliber monster. The Confederate Navy had nothing which could withstand a direct hit from a 15-inch Solid-Shot cannonball (weighing about 454 pounds).

Of additional interest... this unique "off-duty" photo shows the sailors' laundry hung out to dry on ropes strung from the ironclad's turrets to its smokestack.

photo-763.JPG getting chips in my boots.
photo-759.JPG classic dark and light banding of an old groth sabicu tropical hardwood !!photo-760.JPG all the cuts are quickly covered in molten wax to prevent checking and cracking. We keep the wax hot in a crock pot. sealed end grain allows the log to dry over a longer period of time.photo-758.JPG this large piece was scary and had to be dropped with a hinge cut. It worked out good and we saved the contents of the already partially crushed trailor !!photo-761.JPG we will end up with 14-16 logs from this tree, depending where I have to make my last cuts !! 6 pieces will be much larger than normal and will have what im hoping will be the classic ribbon figuring grain pattern. This wood is hot right now and in demand by local builders down here.

If that is what I think it is, the guy must have a death wish.
If you were thinking Punt gun you are correct...these were outlawed 100 years ago, but in there day the gun was packed with anything imaginable (bolts, nails, lead etc) and unloaded on rafts of ducks in the saltwater...they would kill 100's in one morning....note the low profile of the boat and shooter...I would think you would need to get within 60 yards for max impact.
