Meat Hook?

PICT2534.JPG

I found this on a short wagon road between a sawmill and a fishing resort.
Hand made, picture really shows the deliberate sharp point on the hook-end,
and the right-angled opposite end, that has obvious battering at the 90 degree bend,
where it was hammered into an upright timber, just to hang meat anywhere - in
that early culture, quite handy in the woods... Popular item, as I found TWO on that
same wagon road - the second was a bit smaller/shorter...!
Don't worry, I returned them to their same orientation, depth and location....!
I re-bury most of my iron items...!
For scale, the Frisbee is about 12" in diameter.

Want my opinion on what you have ?

Err found then reburied rather. heh

Tis a fire hook...

For hanging a kettle etc... looks as though this one was used as a tool... which... may have worked for the intended purpose at the time... but bent out the hook...
'At which time ...

It was pitched...

And then... pitched again...

By you :P

look at bottom left hook on pg 83 with his comment

I make fishing gaffs with the same type hooks today. Can still buy steel and stainless steel hooks like that for making your own fishing gaffs. Nice find looks like it could still do work today.
