Hillbilly Prince,
I guess what saved my bacon insofar as being curious about new things and trying to keep an open mind, is I got bored with school and left after high school.
We had lots of marketing types at the railway especially near the end of my career that had MBA's or as we called them Management by Accident....

The philosophy I used is that be it marketing or any other field of endeavor we get involved in, it's basically a moving target so nothing is etched in stone, things are always changing and evolving. So what I'd try to instill in the rookies is yes Marketing 101 gives you a basic grounding in what's it's all about from your textbook school days.
But at the end of the day you have to take off the training wheels and use the gray matter we were given. In other words street smarts or thinking on your feet.
One of the downfalls, at least to my mind, of advanced education is it tends to dull people to thinking for themselves. Just follow the various formulas, case studies, etc...and you come up with the magic answer.....

Look where that's gotten us, using that logic and philosophy they're in the process of turning over critical thinking to Artificial Intelligence rather than people using their own mental abilities to think things through...
End of today's rant grasshopper....

That is so true. And if our minds are open to it there is adventure around every corner and new interesting people to meet. I think a lot of people get in a track and plow on with their heads down. Then complain of their dull life.
You just strike me as a teacher type. Still interested in life.
I substituted taught a few times. Of course, now I think you would be driven mad by these kids who grow up with no direction.
By the way, speaking from experience, the biggest hindrance to children is simple ignorance.
Well I will expound on that in a bit lol
