serious question.....My dad was just diagnosed with dementia around the middle of stages. If I can get him interested in metal detecting would it be worth the effort.

That's difficult to answer. Before Mom passed, she was diagnosed as having both dementia and Alzheimer's. They suspected it was dementia, but the two can be so similar that it's sometimes impossible to tell. In any case, as long as he can remember what he's doing out there, who you are, and how to swing, I think that being active and with you will be MUCH better for him than any of the drugs they shove down these patients' throats!!
