I recently watched Paul Blart Mall Cop, and my buddy and I have been joking with each other about one of the lines used in the movie.

Paul Blart was talking about doing a " 5 by 5 " I assume it is some type of "sweep" when entering a building, can anyone give a better description of what it is? or is just fake movie talk.

Google failed me, and I would like to know why we chuckle so much about that phrase.

i typed it in google thinking for supposrt that it was a twelve hour shift.

found this:
"This is an old aeronautical radio term. Radio signal strength and clarity were measured on a scale of 1 to 5. Today the term "Loud and Clear" is preferred to "5 by 5".

In slang use "5 by 5" means things are well, good, or as expected."
