Hey guys! I'm new to the forum. I Just started prospecting and I have a question. There is literally tons of quartz on my land. There is one large piece in particular that I started digging around. I am around 6 feet deep and still not bottom of the rock. The picture I am posting is when I was around 3 feet.

My question is, is this a good sign for finding gold ore? I will take pictures tomorrow to show the current depth

What state are you in, jatdogg? - Unfortunately quartz does not equal gold all the time, just like magnetite and hematite black sand does not always
equal gold - it can be an indication though. Would love to see more pics, especially some close-ups of darker material in the quartz from above pic. Hey,
you've got the crazy, go-for-broke attitude it takes to become successful at prospecting (6ft, my, my!) OH, and welcome to tnet!:hello:

I'm in North Carolina, actually about 20 miles from reed gold mine. Haha yeah I'm defiantly motivated right now. I will get some more pics tomorrow. Some of the prices I chipped of have had dark staining and some shiny metal. I think it's pirite or mica though.

Today's progress. It was snowing/raining so I didn't get much accomplished.

Looks promising to me! - Next step is to crush and pan samples from high and low, front, back, contact with non-quartz, etc. If you go back a couple weeks
Astrobouncer, Goodyguy, Takoda, all show how to make simple, cheap rock crusher. And if you find gold in your samples, Reed Lukens has a nice vid. of
really cool small-engine powered rock crusher - good luck and keep posting!

Well I crushed a piece that had so mineralization. A bunch of pyrite or mica( I'm not sure what the difference is) but the is some really tiny stuff that looks like gold. Swishing water in a aggressive circular motion won't move the specks so fingered crossed. I will post an update when I find a better way to crush more.

@desertnuggets, it crunches like a Cheeto! But I have dug more in hopes that the soil will change and maybe be some ore at the bottom of the large quartz. I also hit a pocket of white clay.
