I posted on the newbie thread a week or two ago, and seen a lot of threads just like mine! To be honest I placed myself in a category of folks who, I bet will probably never MD, or post on the site agian (There seemed to be a thousand!)- but I'm gonna be here for a bit and hopefully make some friends and contribute!

Here to say that I bought not one, but 4 detectors - one per family member!

And...... no....... I have never watched the show, and I did not buy an AT pro, nor am I trying to get rich from the hobby lol.

I just know I'll enjoy it because I'm patient, I like to learn new things, and appreciate finding small stuff- I'm the guy who still picks up pennies- no matter what side is up. It's a hobby I had considered in the past, but there were other things on my plate every time I considered getting into it before. I finally pulled the trigger though, and I'm super excited about it.

Made the leap, hit up the Kellyco page, and ordered:

F5 -for me
F2 -for her
MPX- for oldest son
Pilot- for younger son

The baby girl can wait a couple more years I guess since she's not quite 2 years old yet, but the day will come lol!

Can't Wait to start diggin'!8-)

hello and welcome to the hobby. thats a big leap, there is some adjunct equipment, that i prolly would seriously miss, if i happen to leave at home. you may already know this, if you do please forgive me, but metal detecting would not be very fun without a good digger tool of some sort. learning a new machine is diff enough without hearing things your unable to dig to. secondly i wouldnt enjoy my mding time, on land, without a pinpointer. so much so that i have bought three of them threw the years. my cheapest several years ago was a whites bullseye at about 80 bucks. the best iv had was the propointer at about 130. seeing that your equipping four, hoping your family likes the endeavor. i think id buy the best first, and avoid re-buying. talk about jumping in with both feet, your jumping in with eight feet, my hats off to you. good luck, and i hope your family has many hours of fun. david

Kellyco called me on my way to work today and informed me that both the F5 and F2 are backordered!!! That really stinks, I only get a couple of days off a month and this Sunday is one of them, I was looking forward to the possibility of having my order by then so I could play around with them!

They said I should get everything in about 2 weeks though- I waited this long so I guess it wont hurt to wait a bit longer- oh well?!?!

David- I would love to get a Pro Pointer but they are a little high! I'll probably get one eventually but for now the F point will have to do- it was free with the F2 so I guess I wont feel too bad, if it's as bad (or worse lol) as everyone says it is. My budget was $1000 for the four of us to get into the hobby with what I felt like would be at least "decent" entry level detectors- so I just did not have it to buy the Garrett. As for the diggin' tools I did some research on everything I would need including that. I think I have all the bases covered, except the batteries haha! I wait till the wife calls and tells me the packages came and stop by Walmart on the way home that night!

Welcome to the hobby and the forum. I had considered the hobby for about 35 years before I finally bought a detector. I think I am now trying to make those 35 years up in this year, lol. I think it's good you bought the family detectors also. Great way to spend some time together. Good luck...hope to see your finds very soon.

Congrats on the detectors.

One thing you might want to consider with all those detectors is a set of rechargeable batteries for each. It will save you tons in the long run. Sanyo Enloops are considered the best but I have had great results with Energizer 2300 mAh rechargables. I think Walmart should carry them.

Welcome to the forum. I went without all the other " stuff " at first. Found lots of coins ( all new but not complaining ) without a pinpointer or fancy $$$ digger. Bummer you will miss out MDing on your few days off but like you said you are patient which is a huge factor in MD. Keep us posted on your MD adventures.

Welcome and happy hunting, get you a Garrett pro pointer and you will wonder how you ever got along without one, even though it is possible to hunt without one. I wouldn't recommend it! :occasion18:

I would cancel the order and go with one of the vendors here . I use Mike . You sol save big money by calling dealers . They cannot advertise prices below level . So on your order you probly could save a few hundred .
