I did a little hunting at an 1870 house this afternoon and here's what I found, for the first two hours (ish) all I found was a nickel and a few modern pennies. Then in the last fifteen or twenty minutes I changed spots and only dug the better signals in the 70s and 80s on my ACE... payed off well, with a 49-D Washington (my first silver since march!) and everything else in the image.
The thing I need ID'ed is the eagle pin. It looks an awful lot like the presidental seal and has the letters GS above the eagle, if anyone has any thoughts or information on it that would be great!
Also, funny story about the nickel. I've never dug one that color and when I saw the rim of a green coin bigger than a penny I got super excited thinking it was a two-cent piece or something. It was disappointing to realize it was just a nickel from '63.
