I see several new names.. And some nice artifacts on here as of late.
A conversation about green stone led to a conversation about celts today here... I thought it would make a nice thread to see the variety of material and workmanship of the celts that have been found by members... please add your personal finds.
I say personal finds because that way the emotions of the find are attached to the object the member and to the post in my opinion.

Those are awesome I would probably call that one a chisel its crazy looking almost looks like asphalt

Very well could be a chisel, just don't know. From the side, the material is layered. Very grainy. When I found it, I was wearing a flannel shirt and tried to put it in my pocket and it grabbed the fabric like velcro and wouldn't slide down into the pocket. Some weird stone for sure.

Almost looks like there's some faint longitudinal fluting going on too.

That material looks like black quartzite. Its a local GA material we have here could also be a type of Basalt. Its a nice find and I would say Chisel or Adz.

Those are some great examples.. I have one made of conch shell that is a twin to that mini one.

For those of you who think the artifacts get all busted up from farming operations notice all the implement strikes on this side and how small the effect on it is. YI wish I had a picture of the other side now, it has been banged even more times.

Most understand that sedimentary rock just does not fracture the same as flint or other silica rich stone.... The shock waves just don't travel the same way.
It's what makes some stone knappable and some others not.
Everytime you post that thing you make the same comment and someone tries to explain the same thing to you.
As far as farm implements not breaking the projectile points and tools you find without being rude the majority of the ones you find are about the size of pieces of ones from other areas in the country.
It's completely obvious that breaks are recent in areas that patina heavy...like the southeast
