Post your best looking UNSOLVED "What Is it"

OK, this is my best looking unsolved "What Is It". There have been several types of these posted. Lot's of good guesses but nothing definite. Remember, this is NOT the forum to be looking for an ID for your What is It. Just show off that thing in your collection that's been driving you nuts ;D

The ship called the HMS Resolute served in the Royal Navy through the American Civil War and was retired and broken up in 1879.

Perhaps this is something from the Civil War Period that has ties to the British Royal Navy?

This was not properly I.D'd. in my opinion. The best theory was off of a school desk but it can't be as it has movable pieces and clamps.
It certainly is cool to look at but what the heck is it?
Dave.

Some kind of gate latch?

I wonder if it might be a box/belt plate from Howe Military School here in Indiana.... the school was founded in 1884, so that's a possibility. Can't find a reference pic from the school on your plate, but you might contact them.

I am not sure what those are called, but looks like an iron furance plate that would have mounted to the trim of a room. A lever would have went into it and connected to the furance for a damper I think. Each of the slots, one used for open and one for closed. My best guess as we still have on the wall of one of our old farm houses.

Maybe a piece that mounts to the wall to hold 2 flags? Looks like there are old screws/nails/bolts on either end.

Hammered2.JPGTsideCoin1.JPGFound this hammered object at a recreation area at Pine Top, AZ (Sept 2015). Quarter is for size reference. Any ideas as to its origins. It rings up between 69-75 on the DFX.

Me to.. think it was middle eastern..

IMO It is a door or gate latch. The bar for lifting it up, the curved upside down "V" to help center the close rod.

looks like Spanish treasure
