I was hunting a site where near where a 18th century plantation once stood in Virginia Beach. I wasn't having the greatest luck... a lot of aluminum. It was almost time to leave so I went to an area opposite of where I had been detecting and got a clean deep 77-79. At the bottom of an 6" plug is where I plucked this beautiful round copper piece. The back side is concaved and the front has a beautiful depiction of two women shooting the breeze while on break from tending crops.
....If anyone has any ideas as to the date and origin it would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks - AA

No idea how old or anything else but, it's huge and cool as heck. Some cleaned up pictures might help. Looks like an old broach to me being that big. Great find.

The cornucopia is usually associated with Abundantia; the personification of abundance and plenty.

Yours appears to be a little broach or clasp-pin. You can approximately date them by the clasp (or what is left of the clasp)

Hi; I was trying to go by the style of Dress the women are wearing for an age guesstimate but they are wearing clothing that is not from a specific time period. From all of the other details I see I would "guess" that it dates to the turn of the Century. I doubt it is older than that though ok. I believe it is a brooch. Nice find. PEACE:RONB

Based on the size of the bicep on the left figure, I saw that as a man; and, perhaps, bearded.
Don......

I'm with BARKER - Victorian renaissance era brooch.

Ceres (Demeter) with her daughter, Proserpina, signifying wealth and abundance.

Similar to this turn of the 20th C cigar box art:

I would guess around 1890 to 1920.
