I went to my favorite little beach this morning and found this button about 14 inches deep in the clay. I am not much of a button girl and don’t pay attention to much and assumed it was a World War II. When I googled it it said civil war infantry button. I am really amazed at how beautiful it is. It is civil war ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1556491103.591667.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1556491123.093647.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1556491136.838947.jpg correct?

I’m no expert on civil war artifacts, but I would have to say it’s a union infantry button. Nice find!

It looks like a Union Infantry Officer's button. The "I" in the shield gives it that designation.

Makes ya wonder if someone fell of a ship finding it on the beach great find

A2, I found two CW buttons at my cousin's house yesterday. They should not have been there, no recorded activity from the site. My digging buddy thinks I'm a CW button magnet. I tend to get at least one CW item from every site I've been to in the last 3 years! Go figure.

Nice historical find! :icon_thumleft:

I don't think you are wrong. It appears to be CW to me. The thing is, buttons/uniforms may have been re-purposed well after the war. I have found similar buttons here in AZ believe it or not. It's an outstanding find nonetheless, and congrats on finding it...good job! BTW, what state is your favorite beach in? That might give some insight on it.

Awesome find! Congrats!

Yes sir, civil war or pre-civil war button it is, nice find!!

I found a ww2 hat pin in the woods by a school here in A2 Mi

Congrats on a very nice CW button find.

Great find! I found my first civil war button recently it was almost the same as yours minus the "I" so mine was a general service.

After the war many vets never even went home. Their memories caused so much turmoil that they resolved to change their lives forever. If you read the history of some of the postwar western outlaws you get an insight into that. For that reason you're likely to find their buttons in some really unlikely places. The PTSD is
just a modern name for an age old problem.

Great Button!!! Sure looks CW to me :icon_thumleft:

Thanks for the feedback! I have found some late 1800 coins there recently. I am excited it’s the real deal.
