Please correct me if I am wrong but I think I found a civil war button

I went to my favorite little beach this morning and found this button about 14 inches deep in the clay. I am not much of a button girl and don’t pay attention to much and assumed it was a World War II. When I googled it it said civil war infantry button. I am really amazed at how beautiful it is. It is civil war correct?

While my GGGRandfather was recuperating from wounds, at home, two of his brothers were killed at Gberg. When his mother heard the news she said to him that they would never have died if he'd been there to protect them. Most likely they would all have died together. He didn't move west but he disassociated himself from his folks. I think a lot of vets on both sides feared this kind of abuse and figured they'd not cope well with that.
