This is one of the best finds that I have and it started off as just another day at the creek. Yesterday, I went with my wife and daughter along with my sister and her husband to cool off from this 100+ degree heat we are having here in Southwest Georgia. Shortly after we got in the water, which was less than knee deep, my sister pointed out two flint tools she spotted laying on the creek bed. These finds told me that there was likely points in the area so I started looking as well. I began running my fingers through the sand and finding pottery shards. After I worked that area with little luck, I decided to move down stream and try another spot. I had to pull some limbs out of the way to get a new area cleaned. Thats when this pipe came up. I did not find any points but thats o.k. with this taking thier place! This will likely be the center piece in my collection for quite some time. Any thoughts or comments are welcomed!!

Nice find, it looks like a Mayan artifact to me. It could have been a trade item brought up through Florida or made by a local tribe or came from Spanish looted treasure...Who knows? Keep it safe, it's quite valuable, no doubt.

Fantastic find! Pics below depict the Mississippian Culture as it may have looked about 600 years ago....

That is an absolutely amazing find, huge congratulations!

OMGoodness what an OUTSTANDING find! FANTASTIC! It looks to be in great condition too; are there any cracks or breaks. This is truly a MUSEUM quality piece. Congratulations, Breezie

I know you are super excited about the find, but there are others who might be excited as well... A trip to the University could give you more info on the piece. Im sure there are professors who would really enjoy seeing it. Could benifit both sides. Try the archeology dept., and anthropology dept. I wonder if they could do carbon dating?.

I would even try to get someone at the university to help you write up some type of document concerning its authenticity, then get it insured!!!

Agree that bird looks Mayan/Mexican
called Quexicoatl or something
A Museum quality piece :occasion14: Big congrats!!

Really nice find. I also have one found about 15 years ago here in Louisiana. At the time it was 1 of 2 platform pipes in my state in perfect condition but mine isn't carved like yours. That is a once in a lifetime find you have most people dream of finding things like that people like you and I are very lucky to have come across such great finds. Hopefully you have many more great finds to come.

sent from my x-ray sonar relic finder

SO SWEET!!!!
Congrats on banner, too!!

This is a major find and if you care, will net you some big bucks. However, you look at it... it belongs in a museum so everyone can marvel at it... just my opinion.

I wonder how a price tag could be placed on a item like this.

This is a truly awesome find that has reminded me that there are still amazing things to find out there you just have to look for it. Congrats again on the beautiful piece of history!

Thank you for all your comments. I've been asked several times what I plan to do with it. First, it's not for sale and I agree that it should be somewhere where others can see it. I would like a professional opinion and have it authenticated. We will see from there.
