Phil Robertson Returning To Duck Dynasty

Good news always makes me smile... Long as we're here I must tell this TRUE story. I was out playing golf with this coach I knew and we got to talking about this lady we worked with who I declared had the best looking rear end I had ever seen. He stopped the cart and asked me which butt I thought was better, her's or his. Right then I knew that I was in the presense of the new Liberal Socialists of this country. I picked hers and haven't talked to him to this day. Guess he is out converting more followers to the faith. Dodged a bullet that time...

Backbacon:

I seriously doubt GQ would have agreed to interview Robertson if A&E required editorial approval. No legitimate publication would agree to that. Journalism 101.

Good luck to all,

OB, you could very well be right. I personally believe that any publication would give up their first born right now to hop on the cash cow that A&E is riding, editorial approval or not.

Native Floridian:

Anybody who thinks they have freedom of speech at work - even off the clock - should get a job at Wal*Mart and then try union organizing.

Good luck to all,

~ The Old Bookaroo

I have been in a union, I have work for companies where employees tried to start a union by talking after work to other employees too. They were not fired for talking about it off the job. Phil was off the job.

The standard entertainment contract has a morals clause. It doesn't make the slightest difference if Robertson was at work, at home, or on the moon.

Good luck to all,

Show me a morals clause that says you can't express your religious views durring your private life.

I have a question. What in the hell was GQ doing interviewing Phil Robertson. Was he in the running for sexiest man of the year or what? Lol. I watch the show some as my kids are addicted to it and 4 women against 1 man is an uphill battle to say the least. But it sickens me as to how much Duck Dynasty crap is being sold everywhere. The last straw was the chia pet I saw at Home Depot of Willies beard. American ingenuity at its finest.

A very telling post...

1. So let me get this straight, your friend is a "new liberal socialist" because he might have been homosexual?
2. You stopped being friends with him because he might have been homosexual?
3. You were out playing golf and somehow you correlate this to him "converting followers to the faith"?

If you truly believe all this and this isnt some sort of sick joke, then you are one vile human being...

Evidently you choose to overlook the fact he was NOT at work...

Yes A&E knew a head of publishing about the interview. A&E is the one with the sore fingers from being slapped by the public not the family...

" ZIP IT" Typical liberal thinking, surrender your rights......

You are delusional if you don't think every single member of the show has to sign a strict contract before filming.

He most certainly was "at work". He is in the public domain. If you know anything about law, a lot of court cases have been decided based on determining if someone is in the public domain versus private life. Once you enter into the public domain, the things you say are no longer a part of your private life. Essentially, the way he represents himself when putting his views in the public domain is him representing Duck Dynasty and therefore A&E.

I guarantee you there is very important language in the contract that says something to the effect of "A&E owns all rights to Duck Dynasty and only they have control over the brand" "any publicity about the brand is subject to review by A&E to assure viewpoints expressed on Duck Dynasty are not taken as the viewpoints of A&E".

Remember, A&E is only interested as operating a profitable business. If something threatens that, then they have a duty to its investors to take action.

They do not own the right to their religious beliefs or the ability to express them, they knew their beliefs before they hired them..

If they were Muslim, liberals would be singing a different tune......

Do you have any knowledge of contracts law?

You are getting constitutional rights confused with private enterprise.

There is a BIG difference and sadly you are mistaken.

Right back at you. Do you have knowledge of their contract?

AE knew of their religious beliefs when they signed the contract, do you not think their lawyer was not smart enough to include a clause in their contract protecting their religious beliefs and their love of guns and hunting....

His not being at work doesn't matter.

Religion is a point of contention on the show. The producers have consistently told the Robertsons to limit the religious content. Scenes have been edited and deleted. Phil, isn't a dummy. He had to know that using religion to justify a bigoted pov was going to cause a problem.

Then there is this: That the Robertsons agree to censor their own religious views and beliefs on the show in return for a fat check shows us exactly where religion sits on their priority list. Money first -religion someplace after.

This is now confirmed. How so? After Phil got suspended the family took a stand - no Phil, no Robertsons! That's integrity at work! They put a family member in front of the money. Phil is more important than a paycheck. It proves they can take on stand on issues that are important to them. But when told to zip it on the religion, That they don't stand up and object. They do as they are told and take the money.

Lastly, regarding Zip it: telling your boss where to stick it is freedom of speech. Your boss firing you for insubordination is his right as your employer.

Post proof they agreed to sensor their religion...

Expressing his opinions about the gay lifestyle does not make him bigoted except in a liberal's eyes....

Show us a link to the A&E morals clause.

That said, I agree that expressing your beliefs in private is OK. The problem here is PHil wasn't expressing his views in private. GQ is a very public national publication. Phil was being interviewed as a cast member of Duck Dynasty, not as a private citizen. Duck Dynasty is his employer's property.

There is precedent for firing TV stars for their words or actions. Earlier this year Paula Deen hit the fan big time because of her non at work words. The Food network didn't think twice about cancelling one of their cash cow top rated shows when they booted Deen

Charlie Sheen showed us that it doesn't matter how big you are, you are not too big to get fired and replaced. His show was number one when he got his ticket cancelled.

We can cite examples going back to Jimmy The Greek.

A&E would love to find a way out of this mess without losing a top show. But there is much to be concerned about. They must weight the immediate profits of a show that has already jumped the shark against the future revenues of sponsors who may not agree with a decision to let the show continue. Sponsors expect networks to act in a way that protects their brand. Supporting a TV star who publicly justifies bigotry with religion may not sit well with them.

And GQ isn't exactly a "Christian" magazine, now is it? So why was Phil granting an interview to a magazine that shows half naked women in its issues? If he is REALLY so very focused on being moral? And AGAIN, never mind that Christ never said a word about homosexuality!

pick-and-choose, pick-and choose, it never ends!

And again he made no bigoted remarks, he expressed his religious beliefs..
