I found this 14mm button yesterday at a colonial site that dates back to the late 17th century. It is two piece-the front is pewter and the back is a spun material that appears to be tomback. The shank is drilled.

The design on the front is very elaborate. There are four flower-shaped objects that may be fleur de lis, and a double rope design. In the center is an "L".

Any info on the button would be appreciated-approximate age and origin, and couldit possibly be miltary?

Thanks

Quite rare to get these complete. Found loads of bottom sections, not so many tops & not many complete.
18th C - Civvy. (Loads of designs & patterns)

I'd say early-mid 1700s
Great find, I have a very similar one I found in Connecticut at a cellar hole
